4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

The cabins are what may be called a "bach" (bachelor) in New Zealand many years ago. No electricity, no running water. There are windows, some of which can be opened and a wood burning stove. Critters (mice and maybe rats) will enter the cabin during the night. We had good cell service with AT&T (no service at some places in... More

Stayed in Campsite 5 for two nights during August meteor shower with my two teens. Great fun hiking about and playing on the private beach. Foggy, windy, and a bit chilly here unfortunately, but the day we left looked glorious. Nice sunsets despite fog. Very quiet and secluded camp sites. Must carry gear in wheel barrels a five min walk... More

If there's a big storm coming, people will often opt out of their reservations, and you can get in without reserving by checking at Pantoll Ranger Station up on Mount Tam after the deadline for no-shows. There is no more spectacular place to experience nature's fury than from a cozy, woodstove-warmed cliffside cabin overlooking the pounding surf. Not everybody's cup... More

The Steep Ravine Cabins and Environmental Campsites are located just 1 mile south of Stinson Beach with great access to hiking and bike riding. It's an absolutely beautiful setting and easy drive from San Francisco. The campsites are fantastic, big and well maintained with picnic tables, fire pit, and food storage box. However, the location of the area makes it... More

Are we the only visitors that have noticed the mice infestation? We've stayed there 4 times and during the first stay suspected there were mice based on some suspicious sounds. I took to sleeping in the front room so I could reset the traps after they activated. Visit no. 3 I set three traps and I kid you not-once they... More

These cabins are picturesque, surrounded by hiking trails and situated a short walk from the beach. We saw lots of wildlife: deer, rabbits, newts, pelicans, starfish. There is a town a short drive away if you need any supplies, and firewood is sold on-site. We would love to stay again.

We had a fantastic three nights at Steep Ravine. Reservations are hard to come by and we reserved 6 months in advance--plan ahead! Cabins were very comfortable, especially since it was just two of us. It rained quite a bit during our visit, but we didn't mind with a dry roof over our head and a warm fire in the... More

We were lucky to book one night in February as these cabins are very popular. The weather was perfect and the views were amazing. We enjoyed the sunset from outside of our cabin. My family was dubious about staying at a cabin with no electricity or running water in February but we lucked out on the weather and everyone had... More

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2011

I stayed in the cabins in early December, and even though it was cold, it was wonderful. The views from the cabins were absolutely breathtaking. There are about ten charming, rustic cabins there that were built in the 30's. Inside each cabin is a few sleeping platforms that would probably sleep 4-5 people (depending on their size), a kitchen prep... More

We weren't sure what to expect in December, but this campsite was spectacular. The views are amazing, the cabins are wonderful (4, 7,8) and the wood burning stove kept us fairly warn all night.
