Have just got back from two nights at the Royal. A lovely hotel with good food and friendly staff. Very busy with locals at weekends but we could relax in the library while we waited on dinner. This was a last minute two night break. The service and food were very good and th eportions were generous. Unfortunatley the room was shabby and the bathroom was both grubby and had a cracked wash hand basin. Not what we were expecting. more

Simply outstanding staff, room rate includes gourmet dinner and breakfast, great little town. Of all the places we stayed in Scotland, this was the best value by a generous margin. We stayed in fun attic rooms, sloped ceilings, four-poster bed, excellent bath/shower facilities. more

Lovely two rooms for us (fourposter) and our two sons (twin beds) on first floor, on separate corridor. Really good food with local twist (ie a rather tasty spoonful of haggis with duck or venison).
