This is one of Spain's Paradores. An old building into which a comfortable hotel has been inserted. This was a castle that had been converted into a small palace before becoming a hotel. The courtyard with seats for the bar and also the restaurant is just lovely. Our air-conditioned room was large and compared to many others so was the... More

Stayed in a standard room overlooking the courtyard. The building is really spectacular, it also has a nice outdoor pool. We tried the restaurant and the food was nice, but it was expensive. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Hotel is very well located in the centre of Zafra within a short walk of the main sights like Plaza Mayor.... More

Stay in one of the towers, room had a long stone corridor, large bathroom off to one side with bedroom at the end. Separate alcove had a small window. Room was in fine condition although a bit dark - as expected. Building was interesting and in good repair. WIFI was non-existent in the room but worked fairly well in the... More

This was our first experience with a paradore. I must say it was a good one. Our room was huge. There was a nice swimming pool. The staff were allright. We could park our car in front of the paradore for 4, 50. And Zafra was a nice town were you have nice restaurants.

This building, an old castle, is to die for (they let tourists visit). The room was quiet and shuttered, so dark - one of the better nights' sleep we had in Extremadura. (I see other people complained of noise, so it must depend which room you had, but we asked for a quiet room when we booked. The bar food... More

We stayed here for a special birthday and could not fault the room- once we had found the Parador! Tip- the parking is in the square in front of the hotel, and you can get a public parking pass once you have checked in - not expensive and it lasts for 24 hours. We loved most things about this place,... More

Stunning way to start a holiday in Spain! Perhaps not straightforward to find (we'd got sat nav!), but what a Parador. Walk in through the main round turret to reception, beyond which is an open courtyard with fountain. Pre-dinner tapas being served to guests in this atmospheric space. Receptionists efficient if a little distant. View from bedroom at front was... More

With Paradors you know what you are getting , most often beautifully renovated castles . but all with the same standard ..you must expect as with old buildings and thick walls etc that the wifi won't reach everywhere ..the breakfasts are always very good with plenty of choice ..you can fill up and miss lunch !! Zafra is an interesting... More

Tired and frayed. Staff non too friendly (I think they thought we were gay). Mediocre dining. It might be an ancient castle, but there was nothing of historical interest within, except for the courtyard. Zafra town has nothing to offer. Very few restaurants and no sights worth mentioning. It is like a hundred other towns throughout Spain. Avoid if possible... More

I was surprised when we arrived in the town/ city of Zafra as there is so much more to it than I had imagined . I am so glad we strolled around the narrow cobbled streets . The Parador itself is an amazing building full of history . Once inside the entrance there is a wonderful open air courtyard with... More
