This place is a gem. I chose it because of the many positive reviews but feared from the photos of the cabins that the insides might be a bit tacky. Not at all. New owners took over 2 years ago, moving down from San Francisco, and completely redesigned the interiors, which are charming and comfortable, filled with individualized elements of... More

Mt. Williamson Motel is a treasure, well located on Highway 395, with spectacular views of Mt. Williamson and the Eastern Sierras. Easy access to trails for hiking and backpacking, near Onion Valley trailhead to Kearsarge Pass, and the John Muir Trail. Cris, aka "Strider" offers personalized backpacker re-supply services. She willingly shares stories, advice, and her extensive knowledge of local... More

This is now my official home-away-from-home when I'm in the Eastern Sierra. Strider's place is FANTASTIC! The cabins are perfect - super comfy, always clean, and just the right amount of style & amenities to make you feel taken care of, but never stuffy or overdone. The hot shower is perfect after a day of hiking. Strider is a friendly... More

These are cabins at the south part of Independence. Nothing fancy, just clean and surprisingly quiet since they are right on the highway. The towels in particular were thicker than a cheap motel. The woman that runs the place is very nice and helpful. We would stay there again!

We stayed there in our way from Death Valley to Yosemite and I'm so glad we stayed there. They are so kind, the room was very clean and the homemade breakfast was great. We went there as part of our honeymoon and they put a "just married" sign in our cabin's entrance. Really nice touch! :) We stayed in cabin... More

We had reservations at the Mt. Williamson Motel in Independence, CA, this past weekend, as we had not been able to find a vacancy in Lone Pine, due to the annual Cowboy Film Festival in that town which we were attending. We were a bit uncertain as to what we would find in Independence, but WOW, what a find! Owner... More

The room was very clean and was stocked with coffee, tea, soap and shampoo and an extra towel. There is a small refrigerator. Strider makes a delicious breakfast for all the guests each morning. Sitting together at one big table, you get a chance to meet and learn from the others. Although this motel is not fancy, Strider says she... More

I've been hiking the PCT for a few months, and stayed in many hotels/ motels... But this place has by far been the best. The owner Strider (Chris) is a very wonderful woman who exemplifies great service and comfort in the very small town of Independence CA. My room was clean, and the breakfast was delicious. I particularly enjoyed talking... More

Some friends made arrangements for us to stay at the Mt. Williamson before a hike. This motel was wonderful, for many reasons. For me, the old, (1940s?) motel vibe was fun and the quiet of each individual cabin made for an excellent sleep. Each cottage is well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. I was in cabin 6... More

On a road trip up the 395, I had researched online for places we might hit around 10pm, to crash for the night. Something made me look past the chain motels of Lone Pine and this one further north caught my eye. It looked like it had a really cool vibe, and boy did it. The owner Doug was so... More
