We like to stay at mom & pop places on our travels to national parks and this place fit the bill! Stayed two nights. Cute little cabins with clean accommodations. It was bit small but that is part of the charm. There were 3 of us with big suitcases and a huge cooler and we made it work. Loved the... More

There's not a whole lot of options in Independence, but this hotel is a special place. I hitched in from the Onion Valley trailhead dirty, hungry and tired. The owners, Dave and Strider, know exactly what a hiker needs to rejuvenate and get back on the trail. They were warm and helpful. The rooms were small and basic but immaculate... More

Very nice motel. The owner, Strider (trail name) and her staff work very hard to make sure all runs well. Rooms are quite basic but spotless and breakfast (offered sometimes depending on the season) is excellent. The vibe is like that of a bunch of friends getting together. We went to Las Vegas after the Sierras and I found I... More

Stayed here for a night while visiting family. Staff was excellent, friendly and helpful. The cabins are small and not much room to move around in but, extremely clean and well kept. The only complaint was the room was not ready well after check in time. We had to wait a little bit but were offered drinks while we waited.... More

The cabins may be small, but they are extremely clean and well-maintained, and the staff are wonderful and helpful with suggestions. It's so nice to walk in the evening and see a sky full of stars. We enjoyed our stay and will probably stay here again on our next trip.

Very cute, clean and cozy place to stay in Independence. My dog was welcome and there is a perfect place to walk dogs next to the motel in addition to a grassy park with trees. I stayed in the cabin with a kitchen which was in perfect condition. Will stay here again!!

If you are visiting Manzanar or doing some sightseeing or hiking in the area, this is the place to stay. I originally checked out places in Lone Pine, but every place I checked had a higher percentage of negative reviews than I liked. After driving through the touristy Lone Pine, I knew we had made the right choice staying in... More

This place is a gem. I chose it because of the many positive reviews but feared from the photos of the cabins that the insides might be a bit tacky. Not at all. New owners took over 2 years ago, moving down from San Francisco, and completely redesigned the interiors, which are charming and comfortable, filled with individualized elements of... More

Easy access to trails for hiking and backpacking, near Onion Valley trailhead to Kearsarge Pass, and the John Muir Trail. Cris, aka "Strider" offers personalized backpacker re-supply services. This is now my official home-away-from-home when I'm in the Eastern Sierra. Strider's place is FANTASTIC! The cabins are perfect - super comfy, always clean, and just the right amount of style & amenities to make you feel taken care of, but never stuffy or overdone. The hot shower is perfect after a day of hiking. Strider is a friendly... More
