We had reservations at the Mt. Williamson Motel in Independence, CA, this past weekend, as we had not been able to find a vacancy in Lone Pine, due to the annual Cowboy Film Festival in that town which we were attending. We were a bit uncertain as to what we would find in Independence, but WOW, what a find! Owner... More

The room was very clean and was stocked with coffee, tea, soap and shampoo and an extra towel. There is a small refrigerator. Strider makes a delicious breakfast for all the guests each morning. Sitting together at one big table, you get a chance to meet and learn from the others. Although this motel is not fancy, Strider says she... More

I've been hiking the PCT for a few months, and stayed in many hotels/ motels... But this place has by far been the best. The owner Strider (Chris) is a very wonderful woman who exemplifies great service and comfort in the very small town of Independence CA. My room was clean, and the breakfast was delicious. I particularly enjoyed talking... More

Some friends made arrangements for us to stay at the Mt. Williamson before a hike. This motel was wonderful, for many reasons. For me, the old, (1940s?) motel vibe was fun and the quiet of each individual cabin made for an excellent sleep. Each cottage is well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. I was in cabin 6... More

On a road trip up the 395, I had researched online for places we might hit around 10pm, to crash for the night. Something made me look past the chain motels of Lone Pine and this one further north caught my eye. It looked like it had a really cool vibe, and boy did it. The owner Doug was so... More

I stayed here recently after a section hike on the JMT and could not be more pleased. The cabins are cozy, clean and everything you might need has been thought of and provided. A homey atmosphere including a full breakfast with other guests. I wish there were more places like this around. Quite a change from the industrial motels, more... More

The clientele here is generally split into two categories: European road-trippers; and Backpacker/Hikers. The owners are very "hands on", and they profoundly understand the needs of both types of guests. The motel is not pretending to be a luxury spa, but everything was clean and functioned well; the beds are comfortable; and the rooms include little extras like a refrigerator... More

We are usually in Lone Pine when we're down this far south on 395, but no more! This motel has everything you need, without the 'big city' crush of LP. ;) Doug was super helpful with my quest to find the pet cemetery in Aberdeen. Of course it was in Bishop! Great bfst too!

had a relaxing stay.. the owners are very accommodating.. rooms are super clean.. internet and tv selection is a little challenging but if you are getting away from the big city for relaxation or a hike then that wont bother you.
