The Commonwealth is in a nice location in Richmond if you need to spend some time at the state library. Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be much around. I had to order dinner from a Thai restaurant because I didn't want to eat in the nearly-empty hotel restaurant and I couldn't find any place to go on a Friday night.... more

Not at all impressed with our room at all, and more so the cost for parking. Very disappointed. more

Having seen the mixed reviews, I had my doubts but they were quickly squashed when we arrived. Very attentive receptionist on arrival. The room was spacious and very clean, as was the bathroom. Lousy view, but let's face it, we WERE there to sightsee and were not spending the day in there!! The breakfast was what you made of it... more

The other reviews are right - the rooms are huge. the beds are huge (you could sleep 4 or 5 if you're into that sort of thing). the bathrooms are huge. The location is fine - v. easy to find, next to the state capitol, but not all rooms will have a view of it. You may get a brick... more

My experience at this hotel was a mixed bag. The first thing I noticed was the ENORMOUS SIZE OF THE ROOM. It was more like an apartment than a suite or even a hotel. At first glance the room appeared perfect, but as things progressed problems were found. PROBLEM 1: the carpets were filthy, my child's feet and socks were... more

This hotel has a great location, if you are interested in being near the Capitol, and a couple of excellent restaurants. However our $149 handicapped accessible suite was shabby, dirty and totally without any view except of a dirty interior rooftop. The staff at the desk was pleasant, but seemed focused on their own issues. The carpets were not only... more

While the suite was large and had a nice view of the state house, and the staff members were very friendly, this place was really awful. We checked in around 6:30 p.m. on a Friday night and left to go grab a bite to eat. Came back around 9 and there was no valet to park the car. We were... more

I was in Richmond four nights for business. While the website touted "550 sq ft" rooms, mine was no more than a bedroom. My bedroom at home is larger. My complaints are: lighting in the room and bath is dismal, the "newly renovated" hotel has dreary colors, the furniture is old, scratched and chipped, there was an iron burn in... more

2 out of 5 dots, Out of the gate I have to say, the people of the Commonwealth staff were better than excellent. Polite, welcoming and very warm. This newly remodeled (1982) beauty holds the same austere charm that your grandparents' basement held... including the sweet, sweet smell of Grandpa's pipe. No moth balls. This hotel was commensurate with the... more

We had to stay in Richmond on business for three nights and we heard great things about this hotel. Wrong!!!! The hotel looks nothing like the website. The carpet and towels were dirty. The light in the bathroom wasn't working well at all. Very dissatisfied. We checked in and out on the same day. It was just too nasty to... more
