The hospitality here is marvelous. My room on the 4th was cozy with all the amenities I would want. Breakfast was more than serviceable. The focus here is on comfort and care not luxury. As long as that is your expectation you will be happy. Also be ready to climb steps.

The outstanding features of this lodging are location -- a short walk to Harvard Yard and Harvard Square -- and price, well below the exorbitant hotel rates in the area. They can do it because this is a converted student lodging house. The rooms are not meant to be hotel rooms. They are smallish, and some do not have bathrooms,... More

I was lucky to be surrounded by quiet neighbors, but had I not been I am sure I would have heard chatter and flushing toilets from the shared bathroom across from my room. The photos don't show you that this quaint looking building sits among apartments and parking areas - not other single dwellings. Be prepared to keep your shades... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay in Cambridge. Unfortunately, the specifics you describe do not apply to Irving House, but more likely to Harding House, our sister property. I am disappointed that you did not like the wine and cheese, and that you felt it was not better promoted or presented, and will work with the... More

This boutique B&B is in a very quiet street close to Harvard University. Our room 107 was spacious and very comfortable . The staff manage the dest 24 hours and were very friendly and helpful.the house had a pleasant lounge area and outdoor decks where we enjoyed a drink each evening. Downstairs was a breakfast area and served afternoon tea... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We are pleased that you took advantage of our various amenities! On the matter of our 'green' practices, most of them are not visible to guests as they include environmentally friendly cleaning products, efficient laundry machines, solar heated water (hard to see the thermal units on the roof... Proximity to the Harvard Museums is the main reason we stayed at Irving House. But, truth be told, it's more of a hotel in a renovated old house than a charming, New England B&B. Go for the location. Not service or food! Breakfast was adequate. A typical self-service buffet. Other than luke warm scrambled eggs, no hot dishes at all.... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. Irving House is, as you say, not a deluxe property, and we have never claimed to be one. Aside from having no elevator, and rooms on four floors, some of our rooms are small, and some rooms with private baths have no tub. Many guests have told us,... More

My wife and I have stayed here a few times during our daughter's time at Harvard. This place and the inn next door are the two closest non-hotels to the central part of campus and are just a few block from Memorial Hall & Sanders Theatre, where our daughter's choir performances were held. We've also stayed at the Mary Prentiss... More

Thank you for your kind review! I am pleased to see we compare well with our colleagues in this area, and that you enjoyed your stay with us. Turner House Extended Stay I was a Harvard Extension School student for approximately 1 year and lived at Turner House for an Extended Stay. As there is no Trip Advisor berth for Turner House, I decided to write this review under its’ sister property, Irving House. Zoia, the Assistant General Manager at Irving House, does a great job on the... More

My daughter and I spent a comfortable night at Irving House while she was looking at graduate schools in Cambridge. Very convenient to public transportation. This is a cozy establishment whose management takes great care to assure you a pleasant stay. Please note that rooms can be up several flights of stairs and there is no elevator.

If your main priority is close proximity to Harvard, then this place is great. Otherwise it is second rate. My room was so tiny, with a bathroom across the hall, there was no space for a dresser and the luggage rack was shoved into the closet. I cannot stay here again for two main reasons: 1) the room was so... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. I am sorry your room was too hot! There is no heat that comes from the closets at all, though it may have felt that way. While we have researched improvements to our heating system to provide individual controls in guest rooms, we have not found a system... More
