Great service from the friendly staff at this cosy B+B. Room was very comfortable with all ameneties as described. Our second stay at Irving House and we would return without hesitation. We were staying with friends and had a great time, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Great continental self-service breakfasts! more

Stayed here while scouting for a place to live in Cambridge. Great location for visiting the city, local universities and such. The rooms were decent, clean not huge, but not to small with all the necessaries for a weekend stay or longer, as a Guest house should be. Simple breakfasts included each morning, plus daily snacks and drink provided for... more

My room was tiny but clean and functional and at $105/night with bath I believe it was a good deal. The staff was OK but not particularly freindly or charming. Location was convenient to Harvard Yard (5-6 blocks away) and reasonably close to the metro station. Breakfast served was adequate. I tried to book for another stay in early May... more

I stayed in a room with shared T/B up at the 3rd Floor and found everything in order, very clean and very comfy. The House was fully booked but I never had a problem using the T/B and other facilites such as the laundry and ironing area. I really had a pleasant stay. I'll surely book this place when I'm... more

I found Irving house in Frommers guide initially and wish I had found it sooner. From the moment I arrived from South Africa I felt as if I had come home from home and, as a Harvard parent, will always stay here when I go to Cambridge. I recommended Irving house to other friends and Harvard parents who also stayed... more

I stay at Irving House whenever I am in Cambridge. Sometimes it is two weeks, sometimes more. It is a real gem in terms of quality, and its price is competitive given the expensive environment in which it operates. There are different size rooms ranging from ascetic single rooms with shared bathrooms to queen size doubles that are big enough... more

I have stayed at the Irving House for five nights at a time, five times! Every February I chaperone a group of high school students to Cambridge for a debate tounament at Harvard. Irving house is our home away from home. All of the staff work very hard to make our trip memorable. Irving House's breakfasts are far above the... more

The prices more than doubled because of a college game closeby over the weekend. This was bad enough but the prices stayed doubled into Monday and Tuesday although the rooms were empty Sunday and Monday before Thanksgiving! Local luxury hotels were back to half the price and nearby hotels even less. Irving House not worth the prices they insist upon. more

According to our records, during the days before Thanksgiving Irving House was nearly full. And in spite of that high occupancy, our rates were significantly reduced from the previous weeks, when we were completely sold out. Our rates are lower than most of our local colleagues and continue to include breakfast and parking as well as other amenities for which...

Wi-fi is advertised but the signal was basically unusable. When the problem was reported the response was "we can't keep up with demand". Great. Then why advertise it as an amenity and lure people who will be needing that service? Pssst, to Irving House - it is possible to keep up with the demand, others do it all the time.... more

Wifi service has been a challenge and we continue to make improvements. The structure of the house has proven particularly challenging for the signal, but we are learning more and technology is improving. There are two wired stations where guests can connect in our parlor or conference room. Wireless service is strong in the parlor as well. The visit of...

I recently stayed at Irving House and would not recommend it for anything other than location. First off, the term B&B is a misnomer..it is more of a modestly glorified guesthouse. The room was fine, though a bit noisy. Noise from other rooms and outside was the norm every second that I was there. The wireless did not work well... more

Ah, that there were such a category as Guesthouse in the accommodations lists! I always check that when I can, as it does indeed best describe this nearly unique property. We are much larger than most B&Bs and much smaller and simpler than most hotels. While most of our guests truly enjoy the homey-ness without the hovering hosts, some are...
