This B & B was incredibly convenient for Harvard and Cambridge. First impressions were not so good as our room was at the top of three flights of stairs and was smaller than we imagined. However, the friendliness of the staff and overall atmosphere soon won us over. The breakfast was excellent, so special compliments to the breakfast team who... More

Thank you for your kind and helpful review! Yes, all these things are true: some of our top (fourth) floor rooms are small and they are a walk up, as we cannot find a place in the house to install an elevator….We hope you enjoyed the quiet to be had up there-- I will share your comments with our staff... This overpriced B&B (about $300/night with tax) illustrates the ridiculous hotel market in Cambridge. The room temperatures are controlled centrally, and for unknown reasons management keeps the A/C set at 68 F. In other words, the rooms are freezing from cold drafts that you can't stop. When I requested a warmer temperature, staff on duty said "you're talking to the... More

Thank you for providing your comments on your stay with us. While the rates at this time of year are high in Harvard Square, ours are among the lowest in this area. With the inclusion of parking and breakfast, they compare very favorably with our colleagues. So, your characterization for the budget-minded is accurate. However, we do aim to be... More

This was the first time we stayed at a B & B and I was slightly apprehensive. They were all beyond terrific. The staff was all very very friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone gladly. THEY WERE GREAT.

Coming here has been like going to stay with family. It is furnished like an old Cambridge home with lots of character. It is clean/well run with an excellent breakfast! Rooms can be a bit stuffy but windows open easily. I will stay here again!

Thank you for your very nice review! I will share this with my staff to let them know and to keep up the good work! While our smaller rooms can be close, we encourage people to open the windows as needed and adjust air conditioning vents over the doors as need too! We look forward to seeing you on a... More

I recently stayed at Irving House for two weeks after reading rave reviews about the guest house on this website. I chose to stay at Irving House instead of Sheraton Commander, because Irving House received better reviews on Tripadvisor than Sheraton and the rates are also slightly cheaper. The pros: Excellent location! If you want to be in Cambridge or... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. When I looked into the details of your visit, I noted that you stayed with us on your birthday and partook of our Birthday Special! We hope you enjoyed the little goodies and the discount for that night. The situation at the front desk was difficult because a car was... More

Our experience with the manager has been excellent. She went the extra mile to make sure that our move from Turner House to Irving House and back went very smoothly. We had a short stay in Irving House during the middle of our extended stay at Turner House because we did not know about the accommodations at Turner House and... More

What a lovely review! Thank you. As always, I will be sure all of the staff see this review too. It is very important to know where we can and must improve, but it is always wonderful to hear where we are doing well. We hope to see you when you come back to Cambridge! More

I encountered some good ol' East Coast abrasive behavior from many, but not at the Irving House. It is a great accommodation in a great location. Take bad reviews with an understanding that some of the guests believe they deserve special treatment, and when they do not get it they cry out in pain.

I am pleased you found our guesthouse a good place to stay. We look forward to seeing you again if your travels bring you back to... More

Dear Ms Ling I am sorry you had a bad experience with us. In looking into the details of your stay, I discovered some issues regarding your reservation that were not straightforward at all. Our request for a valid credit card to secure the extended reservation remained unmet. For the record, the room rate was $235. My assistant manager was... More

With the scarcity of accommodations within walking distance of Harvard Square, it is good to know that Irving House provides a pleasant and comfortable stay. I had reserved a room with a queen bed and private bath that I hoped would match the photo on their website. It did, but those particular rooms still vary in size, so if you... More

Very good home away from home. Definetly not a hotel, has much more guesthouse feel to it. The decor is very new england, and lots of books to borrow. Breakfast was also good. Location fantastic for exploring Cambridge.

Thank you for posting this review! I hope it will be helpful to travelers--Yes, we are definitely not a hotel, too big to be a classic 'bed and breakfast' so guesthouse is just the right word to describe our odd property. We hope to see you again when your travels bring you back to Cambridge-- More
