If you love animals, you MUST stay here. The hotel is "Icelandic" - meaning quiet, comfy bed, hot shower, and sparse decor. It's fine. However, the food is amazing, and the LOCATION is spectacular! They are a farm with dozens of Icelandic ponies, sheep, pigs and the obligatory farm dog who will run out and meet you when you arrive.... More

We spent a night here as part of extended tour of Iceland. Very pleasant. Staff were friendly and checkin was quick and easy. They werevery happy to provide us with glasses and ice for in room drinks. The rooms were a bit like a North American motel....basic but very clean...twin beds with duvets, large windows, desk, decent closet and TV.... More

We experienced a great dinner with very good lamb leg. Nice and simple atmosphere. Not too expensive as other places in Island. Amazing vew of the country side and the mountains. A little tipical shop inside the hotel.

Stayed overnight here recently for the second time and found the same high standards of food and hospitality . Our room had a beautiful mountain view and we slept well after a first class dinner, breakfast was an excellent buffet of fresh produce and local specialties. On the first visit we rode across the fields almost to the foot of... More

The scenery and surroundings are lovely, the Hotel is quiet and cozy and the Hotel-staff is one of a kind. I particularly recommend the restaurant, the Chef is first class. All in all a wonderful place.

We stayed in the hotel section and really enjoyed it. This is a beautiful rural area. We took a short walk to visit the horses - our first encounter with the Icelandic variety. They were very friendly and full of personality. We had a fantastic dinner the first night. So good we went back the next night too. Great food... More

The scenery is beautiful at Smaratun, the people are nice and the atmosphere is very relaxed -although there is plenty to do. As for a countryside visit in Iceland, it doesn't get much better than this.
