We had 2 nights here and slept well in a comfortable room. We had read that you could horse ride, but they don't offer it in winter. Need a 4x4 to really explore the area. Good choice at breakfast. Only one choice of evening meal which isn't cheap.

We stayed at Hotel Fljotshlid on two different times during our week-long visit to Iceland in the winter of 2015. The hotel sits by itself with the volcano in the distance--it could be a day trip, but the volcano visitor center is not open in the winter. There are horses left out in the pasture adjacent to the hotel. We... More

We stayed in one of the cabins operated by the hotel, so our review is not really relvant for the hotel itself. The cabin is not very new and that shows. Some things, like the bathroom was quite basic and showed its age. But his is often the case with such cabins, so we were not really too concerned. Overall... More

We wish we had come during a busier time! The grounds and hotel were nice.. but we were the only guests there (I guess that's what you get for coming to Iceland in December!) and the hotel wasn't really functioning at full capacity (ie restaurarnt closed at night) . I had read reviews about horse back riding and hot tubs..... More

My husband and I recently stayed three nights at Hótel Fljótshlíð while on a self guided tour of south Iceland. We decided to stay in the country in the hopes of seeing the Northern Lights- and the universe did not disappoint! The hotel is 11 km from the town of Hvolsvollur off of route 261. There is large sign on... More

For an Icelander living abroad it was perfect to stay at Hotel Fljotshlid – Smaratun when traveling around my country on my summer holiday. Exploring the surrounding on cute Icelandic horses was amazing. The food was so good – real Icelandic food ☺ The service was excellent and the beds at the hotel even better. I fully recommend Hotel Fljotshlid,... More

As always a car needed to reach it. Rooms were spacious and clean in a 60's decor (and seemingly purchased around the same time). We had a double bed which was comfortable but very soft, unfortunately it was on rolls (don't know why) which meant it moved quite freely within the room. We had the room all the way in... More

We loved our stay at Hotel Fljotshild. We rented the last little chalet on the property - furthest out with great views. Our son loved seeing all the farm animals, and watching the morning round up of the ponies each day. He also loved the little playground (even if it could use some TLC). The restaurant served a very nice... More

I came to Iceland to discover the Southcost and spend one night in Hótel Fljótshlíd before I went on to go to the black beaches of Vík. It is located about 10 km away from the town Hvolsvöllur and is very easy to find. The surrounding area is wonderful and when I woke up, the first thing I saw was... More

If you love animals, you MUST stay here. The hotel is "Icelandic" - meaning quiet, comfy bed, hot shower, and sparse decor. It's fine. However, the food is amazing, and the LOCATION is spectacular! They are a farm with dozens of Icelandic ponies, sheep, pigs and the obligatory farm dog who will run out and meet you when you arrive.... More
