If you are planning to stay at this remote hotel in the winter, beware that there is no heating in the second floor rooms. They gave us a space heater that was totally inadequate. The winds were blowing at least 30 miles an hour and it was frigid in the room with no double windows. No one turned on the... More

I stayed here with my family one night in mid October 2014. The hotel and service was great! Very comfortable and clean rooms. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. It was so peace at Hotel Laekur. We also had dinner there and the food was excellent. I would stay at Hotel Laekur again!

We had 4 nights here in March 2014 and we were lucky enough to see the lights. The staff knocked on the door one night to say they were visible so no major need to camp outside and wait if you don't fancy it. This place is right out on its own (by UK standards anyway) and it felt very... More

The hotel itself is set within a wide beautiful and relatively empty landscape, so its the perfect spot to see the Northern Lights. After travelling around Iceland we were trying to find the "best place in Iceland to catch the Northern Lights", and we were actually referred to another hotel. When we got there, we realised that it was only... More

Hotel Laekur was a great place for our family. We loved being out on the farm with a view of Mt. Hekla out our window. It was a cold and windy day when we arrived, but being Minnesotans the kids hopped right into the inviting outdoor hot tub. I sat nearby bundled in my winter coat and hat while the... More

My husband and I just returned from Iceland and Hotel Laekur was the best place for us..The house was off the road on a horse farm with a beautiful view of green grass and Icelandic horses. the room were new and clean with radiant floor heat and very comfortable.. The Chef prepared a fabulous chicken dish and she personally came... More

The hotel was clean, quiet, and full of light, and the sunset from the hot tub was beautiful. Although the hotel dinner was expensive, it was one of the better meals we ate in Iceland. (Ditto for the hotel breakfast; they bake their own delicious, warm bread daily.) Wifi worked well in the rooms. We were disappointed that they were... More

We have just returned from Iceland having spent our last three nights at this hotel and we wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It was the worst hotel we stayed in over the last two weeks. Rooms were very basic, no serviettes at breakfast time, only kitchen roll. Evening dinner was served on COLD plates and was consequently cold. Breakfast wasn't... More

We had two nights scheduled at Hotel Laekur during our two week drive around Iceland and it was the best place we stayed the whole trip. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful, the room was well appointed and very clean and the beds were sooooo comfortable. Breakfast was very good and filling but the best thing was the dinner... More

Beautiful location, wonderful staff, Excellent food and fun horseback riding! Of the 6 places we stayed, this was, by far, our favorite. Gunnar and his family are warm and welcoming. It was wonderful to be sitting in the hot tub, looking out over the fields and mountains, while listening to the girls sing. The dinner meal, while a set menu,... More
