We stayed here one night on July 23. I almost didn't book it because the pictures make it look very dated. I am glad I changed my mind. While it has a 60's motif, this hotel is great. The rooms are actually very large, modern and beautiful. The beds are so comfy. The staff is so helpful. The breakfast was... More

The hotel has a 60s motif and while some things were good most was average. We had a room on the east side facing the train tracks and were woken about 6 times with the whistles blowing. Get a room on the opposite side if the hotel. The rooms are very nice with comfy beds and pillows and the bathrooms... More

We really enjoyed this hotel. It's close enough to walk to the Lincoln sites and much cooler than a chain hotel. Loved our suite decor and the bed. Bath & Body Works bath items. :) Breakfast was super and the staff very helpful and kind. Only issue was that it took awhile to get hot water in the shower in... More

This is a hotel that was built in the 60s which has gone through a major remodel. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. This hotel is VERY convenient to walk to the local "Lincoln" attractions as well as just 2 blocks to the capitol. We rented a "King Suite" which was very nice. The bed was wonderful.... More

We recently spent four nights at the State House Inn. On first glance, the retro charm is very evident in the lobby with its 60's-modern furniture and art. The rooms are on the small side but comfortable overall. We had an accessible room so rather than a closet, we had a rolling rack for our clothing. This was one of... More

Rooms are basic but clean, modern and well done. Nice large bathroom. Lots of storage space and nice big window. Bed and pillows were comfy. Breakfast choice very good for this kind of hotel and staff were helpful. Would stay again. FREE wifi was much appreciated when so far from home...thanks for that.

Went by Amtrak. 2 block walk. Very helpful front desk. Not fancy but clean and neat. Shower had very low water pressure. Area poor for restaurants without car but great for walking to historic places.

We agree with other reviews. Don't let the outside view pictures discourage staying at this 60s era hotel. The inside is updated, modern, and attractive. We enjoyed our spacious and comfortable King Suite. One caveat for our room, hot water is the first water from the cold water faucet -- had to run it for about 2 minutes to get... More

Great bargain - reasonable room for costs. On business trip by myself; nice reasonable room and costs for older hotel. Staff was very good; room was kept very clean and stocked; breakfast was excellent.

Interesting mid-century decor that my wife and i appreciated. Small but clean rooms. Breakfast was typical of most hotel chains. We liked the proximity to downtown so we could walk to Lincoln's museum, restaurants, etc.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The State House Inn is the only major hotel in downtown Springfield, Illinois to offer a complimentary full hot breakfast, super fast hotel wide WiFi(as of Aug 19, 2011) and parking. The combined value of these complimentary goods/services make us, by far, the best value in Springfield. Also, when we say "Breakfast", we mean a real breakfast with eggs, breakfast meats, potatoes, biscuits & gravy, waffles, cereals, yogurt, muffins, toast, juices, Seattle's Best coffee & teas, etc. You could easily spend $10/person replicating our breakfast in a restaurant. Also, when we say "High Speed Internet", we mean it. Our base connection has 50meg download speeds, now offered throughout the hotel. Rated #1 by Tripadvisor almost continuously since we opened in 2003 and recently awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, we are truly a unique hotel experience. ... more   less
