I am in the Hospitality Business and was in town looking to purchase another Bed and Breakfast here in Omaha. First, I'll talk about the room. I stayed there for almost 45 days. I selected a smoking room. The room needed much repair, but was somewhat functional. The lamps on the night stand sounded like there was a short in the wire every time you turned them on or off. I had to stop using them being paranoid of getting electrocuted. The electric stove burners weren't wired correctly. I thought I was turning on one and the wrong one was on and it would smoke as it heated up. The room is poorly insulated, you can feel the cold through the carpet, the walls and the door. The heating/air unit barely kept the room warm. Since it was a smoking room, there was no ventilation. I had to either open the door or window on a regular basis. The security for the room was poor. There was only a dead bolt to secure the door. There were holes in the wall where the security bar use to be, but no security bar. It is easy to see the hotel was absent any sort of regular maintenance. The room I stayed in was similar to a small one bedroom apartment (more like an efficiency). The was no door to the bedroom. The owner suggested that we put a blanket on the doorway if I needed privacy between the two rooms. The water was extremely hot. If you stay here with children or not, be extremely cautious about using the hot water. It will scald you. The size of the toilet is extremely small and the toilet seat had sharp edges, men be careful if you need to sit. Now I speak about the customer service. First impression was that the owners are a sweet little couple, but don't let that fool you. Every time I needed to do laundry, I had to go get the key and unlock the laundry room and then return the key. The key FOB for entry into the laundry room was not working. Only two of the four clothes washers worked and the other two were filthy. The amenities they claim to have, you need to specifically ask for, that's if they actually have them (even then they may not work when provided). At any hour of the day when you go to the check in desk, no one is there. I always had to pick up the phone and wait for them to help me out. The owners lived upstairs above the check in desk and was always in their room and not at the front desk. If you called the front desk and needed anything, they always asked for you to wait if you wanted them to bring it to you, or you had to go to the front desk. Now I will talk about why my stay was prematurely ended by 15 days. The owner's wife, stopped by my room about 8 P.M. She said that I had to close my windows if I had the heater on. I tried to explain to her that 90% of the time, if the window was open then the heater was off. I wore a hoodie or extra clothes to stay warm while I aired out the room. Specifically at this time, I did have the window cracked and the heater on. She told me that she has been watching me daily and how I would have the front window and bedroom window open at all times. I told her that this was not the case. I even invited her to the back room to verify that the window was not open. When we went back there, I opened the shades and then she hit my shoulder and accused me of just closing it and called me a liar. She said that she was the one who had to pay the electric bill and not me. I told her, I paid my monthly bill of almost $1400 to her a month. I can have my window open if I wanted. As words were being exchanged, I did use and expletive referring to the window once, and she again accused me of being a liar and was extremely rude. She mentioned that even her husband told her to leave me alone before this interaction, and she admitted that she could not listen to him. She immediately told me that I had to get out and was going to call the police. I told her to call the police because I had done nothing wrong. As she left she referred to me as "Amigo" like it was going to be insult based off of my race, and I'm not even Hispanic. Shortly after she left, her husband was knocking at my door. I was prepared to apologize for my language and was speaking with him in calm manner. He just yelled at me, would not listen, and called the police. I already knew (being in the hospitality business) that I was no longer allowed to stay there, so I started to pack while waiting for the police. Once the police arrived, I explained the situation, I told them what happened calmly and we even joked around a bit. The police were kind and actually helped me out with the disgruntled owners. I explained to the police, I was already packing, I just needed an hour or two to pack my stuff, find another hotel and leave. Before I left, I ensured I took out any trash and the room was clean. The owner did refund half the rent that I had already paid, which was surprising. He did admit to me, that they were watching me daily as I went about my business. I can understand about being observant and cautious, but spying is unacceptable on customers, especially when there is undue cause. He apologetically stated as I left, that this should have never happened.…
