My husband and I were in Anchorage on business for 4 nights in August 2005. We've found that you can easily drop a cool Grand on a hotel and rental car for a week in Anchorage during tourist season if you don't shop around. Even being there on business, all expenses were ours upfront, therefore we were looking for a value hotel with AIR CONDITIONING, as the temps in Anchorage were in the high 70's -low 80's, which is quite warm even for Anchorage. The Alaskan's were complaining more about the heat than we were. The upscale hotels have air, but most of the 2 star motels and even the restaurants don't. With alot of looking at Alaska sites, we ran across a $79 a nite August special for a queen bed at the America's Best Inn & Suites located at 4110 Spenard. They are offering $59 a nite in September!!
