We stayed here for 1 night. Clean park, surrounded by stunning mountains and glaciers. Creeks on both sides of the park. We took a drive up towards the mountains and got the most amazing pictures. We also found a spot about a mile away that is know for salmon viewing. We took a very small hike to a tiny waterfall... More

As resident of Alaska we usually camp remotely, but rented the #5 cabin here and it was PERFECT! Everything we needed was stocked. The beds were comfortable. The place was clean and cozy! The grounds were quiet at night and the staff amazing, friendly, professional and welcoming. The location is central to Whittier, alyeska, wildlife conservation center and trout fishing... More

Spent 4 nights here. Chose remote site by stream. Owners organize evening campfire in covered pavillion which provided nice opportunity to meet other campers and exchange ideas/experiences. Good showers almost make up for their not having flush toilets (future improvement). Easy access to Portage Glacier and Whittier. WiFi also needs to be beefed up.

We found this through The Milepost. And a great choice it was. Scott and his wife value interaction among guests and have a 'smokehouse' - a people magnet - where the campfire is always burning and people congregate, share stories and become friends. A pleasant change from many other RV campgrounds at which we've stayed. It's a beautiful and tranquil... More

Liked this place so well we stayed a 2nd time on our way out of Kenai Peninsula area! Very peaceful, and quiet in a beautiful area! The views of the mountain, the bald eagle visiting, and the water flowing down the mountain into the creek/lake made it a perfect experience! Easy access to Whittier and Portage Lake, and the owners... More

We ended up staying here four different nights during our travels. We stayed on the creek side of the parking lot which afforded us a bit of grass and a view of the creek. Internet was a plus. This was the most expensive RV park we stayed in.

We originally had reservations at another RV Park in Anchorage. After we drove by, we knew we needed a new place. Someone recommended the Portage Glacier area, so we drove down. Definitely a good decision! Beautiful views and quiet! We preferred the dry sites since they were more remote. Manager was helpful and they have a fire going in the... More

A repeat visit for us. Here two years ago and enjoyed the atmosphere. A bit of a party stop but all the people are friendly and there are lots of kids. The fire pit is well maintained and a gathering spot for all. Great option, and an easy ride from Anchorage.

The park was very scenic, very clean, wonderful management, has full hookups, and very Family/kid friendly. You could rent movies, They have clean showers, nice trout ponds for fishing, and wonderful views of the mountains. I would definitely come back to Portage Valley RV Park.

We had 16 days in an rv and this was our last stop - it should have been our first. We went to Fairbanks, Dawson city, Homer and places in-between but the idea of an rv park by a lake with fish in the stream, ice in the gullys that you can walk on, snow capped mountains, a cook out... More
