I chose this hotel because the plaque outside said it dated from 1916, and I love historic hotels. I must have missed the fine print on the plaque because the current hotel does not date from 1916, but much later. That detail aside, the hotel is adequate, but not great. Everything is somewhat dated and faded. The windows in our... More

We spent 6 nights at this quaint, historic hotel in downtown Anchorage around the start of the Iditarod dog sled race. It was the perfect location for the race start and for the tours we went on with Salmon Berry which was just around the corner. We had a large, quiet room on the third floor. It had a very... More

One of Anchorage's best kept secrets, except I've never had such uncomfortable pillows before. Way too big and foamy (no give, no variety). This would be a fairly easy fix for the hotel. The shower water pressure was poor, as well. Other than that, the room was lovely (more like a small apartment) and even had two TVs. Lots of... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are happy to hear you found the room beautiful. Yes, we agree it is an easy fix to replace the pillows. We order replacement pillows and linen every year in April. We will take a look at the pillows and the shower head in this particular suite and have... More

I was looking for a one time experience of a lifetime by attending the start of the 2014 Iditarod. The best decision I have made on this trip was staying at the Historic Anchorage Hotel. Perfect location, excellent staff, classy rooms, fair price.

Lucky enough to spend a couple of nights here. Location is within walking distance of museums and restaurants including Humpy's where the beer and music were excellent! The staff were helpful and friendly. We were upgraded to the corner room (301) above the bear and one of the prime locations in town for the dog sled races. Breakfast was basic... More

I enjoyed the stay very comfortable and nice room. They keep it older looking to fit the age of the place. Fun that it could be haunted tho i didnt experience anything paranormal either time I stayed there. Guess im not intuned to that side :) tho many people have. They have a book to prove it.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 days in Feb 2014. The hotel is downtown, close to lots of restaurants, museums, etc. It has all the usual charms and idiosyncrasies of an old building. This is why we stayed here. Our room was right on the corner (behind the bear). There is a fair amount of street noise and... More

Local Alaskan in town on winter business. Appreciated the central location of this hotel. Really friendly staff who upgraded me to a suite for no charge. Great décor, comfortable room & nice big bathroom. The continental breakfast spread was perfect for quick food & coffee on the way to my early morning meetings. Wish I hadn't brought my vehicle because... More

Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review! We are happy to hear you appreciate the central downtown location and enjoyed your upgraded accommodations, as well as breakfast. You are right about the monthly parking passes for $30.00 are a bargain but the lots are located a few blocks farther away. Thank you for the recommendations!... More

The decorations, staff and healthy choices for a free breakfast were wonderful. We could walk to all in downtown. We were upgraded to two suites with no extra charge-thank you! The most comfortable beds-yeah no back pain for the week! Loved the ghost stories; maybe the 4, loud stomps I heard at 2:00 in the fitness room below me was... More

This is a good place to stay if you want to be downtown anchorage, which is not that big. There are lots of places to eat near the hotel, as there is no hot food available at the hotel. The free breakfast offered by the hotel is continental. You can make waffles if you want. There is coffee, toast, fruit,... More
