So while you are in Alaska to enjoy so much it has to offer, what jumps out about Winterlake is the food. Todd and Frank did an amazing job on our recent stay. Everything was amazing, from snacks to breakfasts to dinners. Fresh ingredients, reasonable portions, nothing overly complex but always interesting. We had to exercise serious self restraint. And... We were an extended family of 6 and spent 2 nights and 3 days at the lodge. The staff were wonderful - friendly and knowledgable, readliy adapting to meeting the various interests of our group. The fly in and fly out was great fun- Rusts flying service were terrific. The lodge is situated in an unbelievably beautiful location. We hiked,... More

This Lodge provides superior service, accommodations and food in a rugged and truly "within the wild" location. The Lodge is on the Iditarod trail and right on a beautiful lake. It is only accessible by air. But don't let the remote location fool you; this is a place of gourmet food and pampering service. Massages and yoga classes are offered... More

Go. That about sums up the advice that I have about Winterlake Lodge but if you are looking for some detail as to why, here goes. It’s remote – in other words the address is coordinates and you fly in and fly out. The staff is supremely friendly and by the end of the first day, they feel a bit... More

If you're looking for a once in a lifetime experience in the heart of the Alaska wilderness, this is the place for you! Our family of four, one tween and one teenager, spent two very memorable nights at this rustic, luxurious lodge (we didn't want to leave). Our journey began with a hour-long scenic float plane ride over many beautiful... More

My husband and I just got back from our Alaska honeymoon and had the pleasure of spending five days at Winterlake Lodge. Simply an incredible place with wonderful, experienced and attentive staff. Just getting there is an experience, since the lodge is not road accessible and you need to arrive by floatplane. Once there, your guide will help you pick... More

Get a second job, sell a kidney, whatever it takes, just go there! As the other reviews say this is a truly breathtaking, pristine, incredible part of the world. It is Denali National Park without the hoards of tourists. It is frontier life yet with creature comforts and Carl and Ty (Ty is Carl's son in law,Kirsten was away when... More

This was an absolutely beautiful place, made even better by the wonderful owners and staff. The experience of flying in on a float plane, hiking in the back country, seeing nature up close and personal.....really close......and then coming back to massages, gourmet meals and cooking lessons. ..... how much better could it be? Carl and Kirsten have carved a bit... More

We stayed at Winterlake Lodge for a few days at the end of our honeymoon. We were immediately wishing for more time there. There was opportunity for activity or relaxation that filled our needs to both see more of Alaska and soak up its tranquility. Alaska is such a grand, intoxicating place that it's easy to understand how some people... More

I’ve been waiting for years to see a review or two start to pop up for Winterlake. We stayed back in 2006; it must have early September because we were there when Steve Irwin died. We were collected by light plane from Anchorage, stopped at Redoubt Bay for lunch and an afternoons (fortunately, successful!) bear-viewing, then on to Winterlake. There... More
