Our room was on the 2nd floor. No elevator. On the 3rd floor you get a view, but it was still nice & clean. It is an old lodge of some sort that was converted to a hotel many years ago. Not much in the way of seats or a lobby. But it is right across the street from a... More

I enjoyed my two night stay here. The room was clean and tidy. The new owners helped with getting our baggage to the third floor (there is not elevator). The scenery was great from all sides of our room. It is said to be haunted, but nothing out of the ordinary occured. The sitting room was always supplied with hot... More

I read a post from exactly one year ago... same thing... the steps outside are in disrepair and there was a jail-type bar door across the reception room. There was no breakfast but an urn with coffee in it (not sure how you'd make a cup of tea). And we didn't see a member of staff the whole time we... More

We came with the Alaska tour saver, the owner said that It does not apply In June and July... Not true!!! Then when he sew that it is incorrect he said that there were no rooms, that it applies to pension rooms with shared showers, there is a room for one night only and so on... I would never recommend... More

The new owners, who purchased the property in May likely were not fully aware of the terms of the Tour Savers as there were a lot of details to transfer in a short period of time. The new owners will be taking possession of the Trip Advisor access this week and may comment further. This will be the final post... More

There's not a lot of history in our 49th state, but the history buff will appreciate stepping back into the aftermath of the gold rush days. The hotel lobby is authentic. The rooms are quaint and comfortable with modern conveniences, yet definitely have that old house feel. My son loved sleeping in the murphy (fold-down) bed. The bed linens were... More

This old hotel has been carefully modernized without altering the historic flavor for which it is famous. It was re-painted in 2014. The interior is like walking back into time. It is rumored that Fannie's ghost roams the halls on the second floor.

Have stayed here many times. This last visit the family stayed in the "Haunted" suite. No ghosts, but comfy beds, charming atmosphere and wonderful staff. Quiet and restful. Very clean and well maintained. Perfect Fall family getaway.

We stayed there 2 nights. No shuttle service to pick us up at the train depot. We took taxi to get there, but the hotel is actually not too far from depot. The room was small but very cozy and clean, even the public bathroom. I personally like their shampoo very much.

This is one of the oldest buildings in Seward. The hotel is really charming and has a lot of character. The free parking is an added bonus. The walls are super thin. With super loud neighbors (it was the fourth of July), I really did not sleep well.

We stayed at the Van Gilder three nights. It's historic so we expected quirks, which can sometimes be fun. No screens/fan or elevators, keep that in mind. We had a second floor room (206) with a double bed and murphy bed (we knew this going in). We didn't expect the room to be quite as small as it actually was... More
