We stayed here for 3 nights. We arrived on a night when (supposedly) every room was booked. They had us waiting for a good 20 minutes as they frantically looked for vacant rooms. They didn't admit this to us, saying instead that they were "looking for an upgrade for us." Our "upgrade" left much to be desired. The room did... more

We stayed at the King Kamehameha Hotel in Kona for one night. The mold was so bad my husband ended up with an asthma attack. The rugs are at least 40 years old and had a musty odor. Something was biting me on the bed. We moved to the cheaper Seaside Hotel across the street, and while it was no... more

Just completed a weekend stay at the King Kam. I agree that it is a tired hotel, which needs renovation. Our room was clean and adequate for an economy hotel. We found that the hot water tap on the sink did not work and the tub drained slowly. We called the need for repair into the front desk the next... more

This hotel is VERY tired. Yes, there is definitely a mouldy smell to the whole building, however the cleaning staff are the most efficient in the establishment. They were very friendly and very good at their job! I just wish I could say something similar about any other of the staff. The front counter staff were very surly and unhelpful,... more

Check in was fast and the woman was quite friendly. the room needs an update, been going there for years. same tired bedspreads, wallpaper and art. Small portable t.v. no glasses, just styrofoam cups. towels are old and stained, beach towels are very small and not suitable for adults. carpet worn and only 1 elevator seemed to work. Supposedly the... more

Remember back to your college days? You and a bunch of friends would road trip for a long weekend, pool your money, cram yourselves together in a hotel room, flip a coin for a chance to sleep on the bed. But you didn't care, because you weren't there to hang out in the hotel room. You were going to the... more

I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel room for one night as I was going on to Maui the next day. Big Mistake. The room was old and dank with mold all around the A/C. The tub was stained and backed up with brown water. And discovered BEDBUGS in the early morning. Don't ever ever stay at this hotel.... more

We just got back from staying at the King Kam. I read the reviews but ignored them! I live in Hilo (on the east side of the Big Island) and all of my friends have stayed there and recommended it. We are a family of 4 with 2 children under 6. If you are looking for a fancy resort or... more

WARNING! I gotten Scabies (Bug Mites) from this hotel! I have scars from the scabies and the hotel will do nothing about it! I know of other very similar cases and they also stayed at the King Kamehameha hotel. Please dont take a chance. It is a very bad experience to go through what I did. more
