This rustic older place is well maintained and is surrounded by trees and flowers. Perfect base to explore the west and northwest side of the Big Island. It is away from the busy tourist areas and very reasonably priced. There are multiple different choices of rooms to stay in. We stayed 3 nights in the upstairs Jasmine Room which was... More

As we prefer to stay in small B&Bs rather than in big resort hotels, we found this B&B outside Kona on the uphill side. The buildings lay very scenic in the middle of many trees and flowers. This property is situated in a bend of the uphill road. That you can get to such nice places you need a road... More

Located in the hills above Kona, in a rustic setting, the "house of peace" was a perfect spot to start a visit of the Big Island. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast area was outside, under cover, and provided a great view of the grounds, birds feeding, and a few turkeys gobbling their way through life. The staff were... More

Worst stay of my whole trip. The Hale Maluhia sits within a sharp bend in the road, so traffic noise is quite pronounced, especially when trucks accelerate going up the hill. Internet connection was intermittent. The whole place felt and looked rather shabby. And, in the morning, you have to cook your own breakfast!

In our notes about our Country Inn we have carefully noted that our Bed and Breakfast is a Buffet with a DYI Omelet Bar with Bird watching. And for $95. per night you can not find a better experience in Kona And that our little Country Inn does have work traffic in the mornings and evenings. Now Shabby, That is... More

We really enjoyed the at home feeling and the friendly amazing Staff. Grace and Kairo and Evan did an awesome job. They had a lovely buffet style breakfast with fresh local fruit, breads, waffles, omelette fixens and fresh juice, coffee and tea. It had a very relaxed homey feel, and it was fun to meet the other guests at breakfast.... More

We stayed here in the Japanese Tea House for two nights, after getting married on Maui and then travelling to the Big Island to start our honeymoon. The setting was natural and relaxed. At night, it is dark and the crickets etc make a fair noise, but we enjoyed the sound and usually sleep with earplugs anyway. The tea house... More

Yes, front door parking to our Japanese Tea House is best with a compact, Jeep or Rav4 as my wife drives using the driveway every day. The drive way works fine for small cars but there is also a second paved parking space for the Tea House for any sized auto about 50' from the front door. As to the... More

Absolutely amazing staff, location, and accommodation! We were very impressed by the easy going, helpful staff and the beautiful setting. Surrounded by the sounds of animals and coffee trees swaying in the wind, hale maluhia is a secret little haven only minutes away from the beach. For anyone looking for a peaceful, kind atmosphere I would highly recommend this gem... More

Lovely Inn on the mountain side, peaceful, quiet (except for the chickens). Each room is different and comfortable. The hosts are very friendly and show the areas. Even has a library room. Breakfast is outstanding with fresh fruit homemade breads, waffles, and cook to order omelettes. All the guests mingle during breakfast on the lanai. A complimentary box of chocolate... More

This was our first time to stay with Ken and Sue at Hale Maluhia and one of our first stays at any B&B on the islands. Having visited this wonderful place nine times we've stayed in accomodations ranging from camping (our favorite form) to plush resorts and decided to see what B&B's were about. What seems to tie all of... More

Just finished a long stay at the beginning of March, 2015, and everything went very well. It's not a new property, but everything works. It's convenient for visiting the big island. The breakfast meal is as large or small as you would like, and the birds make for interesting morning entertainment. I've never met a friendlier staff. If I were... More
