This place operates as a series of individually let/managed units within a set of four blocks. Some units are actually homes rather than holiday let's. Our unit was quite worn out, and the bathroom had seen better days. It was a bit strange using the kitchen sink for washing, as the only sink in the place. Eating had to be... More

As times have become leaner, by necessity I have looked for less expensive lodging that still fulfilled my basic requirements: Near the beach, pool & jacuzzi, places to walk to, quality food nearby and comfortable, pleasant surroundings. The Kona Islander made me feel like a chump for ever having spent more. I paid $89 per night for a room with... More

Terrible! The right hand (check-in) does not know what the left hand (security) is doing. Completely disjointed customer service with personnel who cannot problem solve anything that isn't prescribed as a 'rule'. Nearly three hours to get hot scalding water that could not be turned off in the shower dealt with and then front office office spent a good portion... More

Hawaii Resort Management Inc., the company you work with to rent a room here is terrible. I would not recommend staying here because the rooms are for the most part terrible, and both the Management Company staff and the front desk staff are rude and incompetent. It's too bad because the location is outstanding. Don't let the location or the... More

Pros: Owner was friendly, prompt, and easy to work with Check in/out was fast Room was exactly as described and in excellent condition Notes: Lots of cats around the property, so pathways smell like cat urine and feces in certain areas No elevators so stay on the first floor if you have problems with stairs or lots of luggage

The woman who manages the property is the least hospitable person in the hospitality industry. Here, I officially give her that award. Congratulations to her! We looked at a handful of rooms before selecting one. She would only allow us to view 2 or 3, I think it was, which limited our choice. They were all completely different. Some with... More

We chose to add three days to our usual week long vacation and reserved a room at the Kona Islander Inn. Unfortunately, we will never stay there again. The only thing good to say about the place is the location to Kona...within walking distance to everything. We expected the place to be kind of funky (my parents stayed here in... More

I stayed for a week with a group of 18 people. The rooms were absolutely nasty. Some of us had rooms that had body hair all over the beds. There was one woman, Felicia, who informed me that I could not play music on the public porch area. Mind you, I was playing it from my phone. Not loud enough... More
