My husband and I rented a condo here through the owner using AirBnB, so as a disclaimer, I can't comment on what the hotel rooms look like. Our condo overlooked the pool, which was almost always empty, but we were there a few times a day. They have a lot of rules posted, and this can be good or bad.... More

We stayed here recently, we booked it through our timeshare, the location was great, close to everything, shops, restaurants etc. and the unit we had was on the second floor and had a great view of the beach from our balcony, which was straight across the road, the inside of the unit was ok, just a bit dated, but the... We returned to the Kona Islander after 20 years. Searched for and found a unit similar to the one we had then; 3rd floor, ocean view. This unit was very pleasant. Furnishings with island theme. Great to have a refrigerator and microwave. Queen bed was ok. Unit is clean and attractive. View from lanai is terrific...palm trees with waves rushing... More

To begin, I am a business traveler. I work with the Military as a Civilian Tech Rep. When I'm temporarily assigned with an Army or Marine Unit, the hours are long, and usually 7 days a week. Lodging obviously does not need to be luxurious. When I was told I was traveling to Kona Hawaii to work with a Marine... More

Don't stay in #139, Kona Islander Condos booked through Booking dot com. This place has a great location in the centre of town. The staff we met were polite and helpful. It has a nice central pool and jacuzzi. Each unit is subletted by different people/agents. Ours as it turned out wasn't the best. Avoid Gayle in #139. We expected... More

It's hard to be too hard critical as we swapped our Aussie club points for this week in Kona. The islander only has a few of the timeshare units in a fairly large complex. We also knew the place to be older and tired. This did not explain some things which really should not happen in a international location in... More

Our second stay at the Kona Islander. Our room was very nice with an excellent ocean view. The studio had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The grounds are very nice as is the pool and hot tub. While parking is tight, we found a spot every night. There is some road noise and occasionally a few street people can... More

Well i should have looked on tripadvisor before staying here. It was a last minuter decision without the internet. This place is pretty run down, especially for the price. The room we were given was of a lower standard than a rough backpackers. Torn linen, filthy shower and bathroom. I know these are individually owned, but surely management must check to... More

I read some unruly reviews and want to make sure potential guests are not deterred by a few bad apples (units). The units are small studio condos and privately owned. Each unit is different. Residents and guests live on property. I have stayed at the Islander on every trip once I found a unit I liked. I stay in unit... More

I stayed here with my Mom in 2009. Each condo is individually owned so you will get a different experience. We stayed in a studio condo on the third floor and it was very clean and comfortable. It contained a bed and a pullout bed. This unit had a mini fridge and a microwave. Some, if not most of the... More
