First time in the Kona area. Felt the hotel was a good value for the money. It suited our needs perfectly-we didn't need to spend much time in the room. The view was terrific. We had a little trouble with sleeping the first night because of the surf noise, but got used to it the next 2 nights. Loved the... More

Was an Excellent Location and Value. About a half mile away from town, enough parking and the staff was AWESOME. Would suggest if you want to save $$ on rooms and spend on adventure!!!

I originally stopped off at the Kona Islander Inn in Kailua-Kona, but they demanded a credit card only. It would have been an inexpensive place to stay, except that when you add in the non-refundable cleaning deposit they charge, the savings were gone. So I headed for the Kona Tiki Motel. Unlike the Kona Islander, the Kona Tiki Motel accepts... More

After reading all the online and book reviews about this place, I was expecting to come back and give the hotel 5 stars. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth it for me. The pros are that they have all fantastic oceanfront rooms, a good location near town, are good value for what you get in expensive Kona, and provide a free breakfast.... More

It's strange how this place actually got good reviews from both Lonely Planet and The Ultimate Big Island Guidebook (Bluebook). Both considered it good value, well-located and a "steal". We've travelled extensively and generally don't book ahead but this time, we trusted both these guides and basically got bum steers. Where to start? Firstly, like most folks booking ahead, we... This is an incredible place for the price you pay. It is an ocean-front motel, at a reasonable distance to downtown Kona and its nicest bays. The only sound you can hear is the sound of waves, which works as a sleeping aid! Even though the rooms and furniture are a bit old, they are well-maintained and kept as clean... More

We watched humpback whales from our hotel room. How much more do you want?! Ok - that said - washrooms are small. The hotel is generally dated but well-kept. We liked the 60's style place. After all if it was modernized, then it would cost a lot more per night. Location, location, location. The view was great and the price... More

We stayed for 4 nights, location right on the ocean. But, location also RIGHT on the main street, LOTS of traffic noise. Beds didn't hurt us, and the place was clean. A seawall right out front of all rooms means no privacy beginning in the very early morning with folks walking and sitting on the seawall just outside the bedroom... More

I stayed here with my partner after reading lonely planet and just taking a punt. We were stunned at what we got... located right on the beach we thought we had arrived in heaven. Each night we went to sleep to sounds of waves crashing just meters away, then awoke to a beautiful breakfast down stairs overlooking the ocean. Plus... More

We have stayed at the Kona Tiki on 3 occasions and found it a fantastic buy. If you were any closer to the ocean you would be in it. There is variability among the rotating staff, but most are friendly and helpful. We did request a refund when we had to change our travel plans and we were given a... More
