We stayed at the Kona Tiki in June of 2010. Happened to be watching a Hawaii Life show on TV and it made me think of this adorable, charming hotel and how it was a favorite of our time on the islands. I remember the ocean water crashing over the break wall into the pool. So cool. I loved the... More

I have been to the Big Island many times but this was the first time at the Kona Tiki! It was so amazing. We had a ground floor unit with a kitchenette that we used all the time. The breakfast was awesome; we'd bring our food back to the unit and sit on the lanai and watch the waves. We... More

More is less. The more we stayed, the less we wanted to leave, increasingly addicted to the views and the sounds of the ocean which pervade the hotel night and day. The atmosphere is totally relaxed, with Mike and Jan always on hand to offer helpful suggestions. The hotel is old but it is clean and there can be no... More

If you want reasonable rates, incredibly efficient and helpful staff, the ocean only ten feet (or so--as I did not measure it) from your room, a lovely pool, crashing surf, conch and tiki torch lightings every night, then the Kona Tiki is for you! It felt like a home away from home! Mike and Jan Gabbard were the "inn keepers"... More

Was a little bit hesitant to book the Kona Tiki because of previous reviews, but it was a great place to stay for the price we paid. Walking distance to downtown Kona (15 mins) for dinner and drinks (don't expect to get dinner after 9 pm in this old people's place). Beautiful ocean views from room and patio/pool. The breakfast... My friend & I stayed here the last week of October 2013. First the good...the beds are very comfortable with bright island themed newer looking bedspreads (though the sheets were a tad tired/worn looking but clean!) The bath towels newer looking white & fluffy with no problems getting extras (though the hand towels & washcloths all a little thin/worn). The... More

We stayed at the Kona Tiki during the Ironman to watch my sister compete. The Managers, Jan and Mike were very hospitable and made us feel so at home for the entire stay - even standing out front with us to watch the race and cheering as other Kona Tiki Ironmen and women competed. Jan and Mike were also very... More

One of my abiding memories of Hawaii is of time spent sitting out on the Lanai of this hotel, listening to the surf booming below with perfect sunlight illuminating tropical fish in the clear water. The room was spacious and simple, and the small kitchen was a pleasant addition, but you'll remember this place for the view and the proximity... More

This place is a refreshing throw-back to what resorts in Florida and Hawaii were back in the late 60's and early 70's versus the mega-resorts of today. The location is great for touring the Kona coast, though we used it for home base to tour the entire island this year. One side of the pool is actually adjoining the sea... More

Views from the Kona Tiki Hotel is very breathtaking...Plenty of dolphins a beautiful sunsets everyday. Lodging was minimalistic (No TV, radio), but the fresh opihi off the rock wall made up for it. Staff, Jan & Mike, were very accommodating since the first phone call, they made us feel right at home. They provided fruit and bagel/english muffins daily. Can't... More
