This was an amazing hotel. Sleeping to the sound of waves was incredibly relaxing. It's conveniently located near shopping and diving locations for something for everyone. The "staff" is incredibly welcoming, and it's more like you are guests at a friends house than at a hotel. If you are lucky, like we happened to be, you can watch the Hawaiian... More

This place has a homely feel about it. It is right beside the crashing waves of the sea, but with that comes positives and negatives. There is always a feeling like there's a storm outside, but its just the waves. You can walk the sea wall and just look down to see fish swimming amongst the rocks, or look out... More

Wonderful family holiday, January 2014, where we celebrated our son's 21st. The manager couldn't have been nicer. She was very helpful when one of us was sick and needed to see a doctor. Many of the guests have returned year after year and are friendly and inclusive. We appreciated that one lady, a heavy drinker who was loud and intrusive,... More

The Tiki is a simple, older, smaller, retro hotel. Yes, the waves were loud but you should expect that being located on a sea wall. Didn't really notice the road noise but yes, it is near the road. We left our doors open when we were in our rooms to enjoy the breeze. We enjoyed meeting the other guests and... More

This was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. Firstly it shouldn't be called a hotel defiantly a motel. The manager Jan was rude and very nit picky over every little thing, we did not feel welcomed or accommodated in anyway. She over charged and added on extra fees without being up front about it. I'm... More

This review was written by the same awful group that wrote the other "worst hotel ever" review. These writers only registered with trip adviser in order to write libelous, slanderous, personal attacks on myself and Michael, the hotel managers. The statements made are not only lies, but ridiculous in nature. These people, and there were about 10 in the group, were very disruptive... More

Basic Little Hotel with few facilities, Tired and Dated. However it is on the Waters-edge with tropical fish visible from your room. Nice little pool area and acceptable 'Continental' or is it 'American' breakfast ?- bagels / beverage and fruits. We found our room was made up each day. If you just need a basic hotel in a fantastic location... More

By far the worst hotel experience I have ever had, I booked and paid a $500 deposit last year ,I received and email from the manager on May 29th which was 19 days before we where due to check in that the price has increased and we had to pay or risk losing our deposit .I also had originally planed... We have stayed at the Kona Tiki Hotel three times. Why? Its fabulous location, affordability, cleanliness, walk-in proximity to Kailua Village, Magic Sands beach, Kailua Bay and hosts Mike and Jan aim to please. There's free parking if you have a rental car, and most roads off Ali'i Drive, its location, will take you to the upper main roads for... More

Low prices, No frills, no tv, no AC, but who needs it when you have the crashing waves and salt water pool? They provide ice, coolers, snorkel gear, breakfast, coffee! I loved fallng asleep to the waves, I highly reccomend this to anyone looking for the real Hawaii.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2015

We stayed at Kona Tiki for 4 nights in early May. We were a little dubious, as we had read a Trip Advisor review of the crashing waves disturbing guests' sleep. I thought, How could the sound of the soothing ocean keep you awake?! It certainly didn't impede our stay, and the hosts, Jan and Mike were treasures. I asked... More
