The Big Island doesn't seem to have gone through the huge "hotel renovation" phase that Kauai went through. As such, all of the lower priced hotels (relatively speaking of course, I paid about $20 more a night here than in Kauai, for a much lower quality hotel) are very old. The staff at the property were helpful in an honest way and not just because they are told to be. The rooms are clean, simple and filled our needs adequately. Location is great and easy to get to from any direction. We will return if visiting Kona again. more

Stay for the weekend to have family reunion. Staff there was very nice, room was very big, our stay there was very good. Even though the pool closed at 6pm the kids went walking in Kona town. Great rates, no-frills hotel, lots of "local" employees and guests. No pretentious wannabee transplants trying to "represent". If you want luxury and wish to be pampered, go somewhere else and pay their high prices. If you just need a comfortable and clean place to stay, try this hotel. This hotel was very outdated and dark , but clean and in a great location. The outside gardens were very nice. The best thing was the price-we paid $79 for the night. It is a good place if you are looking for a deal, and are not spending much time in the room. We went to the restaurant for breakfast.... more
