We LOVED this place! Awesome retro motel with all the creature comforts you might need. This is the real deal. The nice couple who owns this place has done an exceptional job of restoring and maintaining it. Clean as a whistle...we loved the cool tiled bathroom. The modern touches (like Wifi, flat screen TVs and cable) were just right. Lots... More

I just spent three nights in the Rocket Motel in Custer, SD and it was great. The rooms are older and smaller but they are very clean and well maintained. I have stayed in three other motels in town and they were not nearly as clean or quiet. The owner / managers were very accommodating, friendly and polite. I will... More

Our stay in August 2014 at the Rocket Motel ended up being our favorite motel on our vacation. It was exceptionally clean. Even though our room was small we found it to be cozy. The retro decor was fun and the room included everything we needed: small fridge, microwave, hair dryer, and free wifi.

A vintage motel, with vintage decorations but all the modern stuff you need. Park at the door, comfortable beds, and have I said this place is as clean as I have ever seen!!! Run by a husband and wife team that are very friendly and helpful. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Custer.....we have stayed here 4 years in a row on vacation.

We came into town for business. As always when we go to a small town, we drove through first to check things out. My wife was immediately drawn to the Rocket Motel. I should mention that we also own a small motel and can appreciate what goes into making it a special place. And a special place this is. Very... More

Stayed in the "two-room suite." It's two small rooms connected by a short hallway and a bathroom (shower was TINY!) and there's no door to close between the two rooms, so if you get this suite in an effort to obtain some level of privacy or noise dampening from the other half of the room (i.e. if traveling with children)... For the sights @ Rapid City SD as a destination, I highly recommend going a bit further to the south (@ 20 miles) to get a great, inexpensive night or 2 at the Rocket Motel in Custer SD where we spent last Thursday night. From here. Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse monument, Needles Hwy, Custer State Park (think scenes right out... More

Stayed 4 nights over round up weekend. Rocket has everything you want in a Motel. Clean, comfortable, great location in the centre of Custer and good value. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again and unreservedly recommend.

This is the nicest motel I have ever stayed at. Nicest folks you ever want to meet. Better than those big name hotels . If you're stopping in Custer, be sure to stay at The Rocket Motel...you'll be glad you did!

The Rocket Motel is an old fashioned motel that makes one feel as if they rode a time machine back to the 1950's. However, it is very well maintained, very clean, reasonably priced, and provides a good hub for a visit to the Black Hills area. If you enjoy the nostalgia, and don't mind the drawbacks that is. The rooms... More
