We chose the Shady Rest because of the good reviews it got. We were not disappointed. It is not a 5 star resort - but a cozy, fun place to stay. Our cabin was small, but big enough for the two of us. We arrived on a rainy, cold afternoon. We had called ahead, and Ann was kind enough to... More

My Mom and I (California gals) were joined by our family from Oklahoma so we reserved cabin 8 for plenty of space. But when we arrive Ann felt the stairs would be just too much of a challenge for my Mom's new knee. Ann found us other commendations for a week that were easier for Mom to use. After the... More

This was a wonderful find for our trip to the Badlands and Custer State Park area. Perfect location and quiet! We loved our yellow cabin. It had all we needed for a comfortable stay, although a bit tight for two----(not quite enough storage space for luggage and belongings, etc) Even with that minor issue, our cabin was comfortable, clean, and... I loved my stay here. The cabins run around 58.00 a night (I received the 10% off for staying 4 nights) They are absolutely perfect. You sort of feel like you are roughing it in the Black Hills (because it is a cabin), but really you have all the conveniences of home. There is a coffee pot, microwave, mini fridge,... More

From the moment we walked into the office and met Ann, we loved Shady Rest Motel. My husband had recently had back surgery and when she found out, she gave us a different cabin so he wouldn't have to negotiate stairs. Her son even helped us unload our car! Our cabin was spotless, spacious and had everything we could need.... More

My husband and I spent 5 nights in Cabin 11 this past week. My review is specific to our stay in cabin 11. I think each cabin is different, so I can't speak to any other cabins. Cabin 11 was immaculately clean. The bed was comfortable. We needed both heat and air this past week, and both worked fine. Plenty... More

We were two couples with bicycles that came to ride the length of the George S. Mickelson Trail. We found this a terrific facility to stay. The location is right on the trail, so we literally rode out the door on two of the days, as we mimicked the schedule of the official Mickelson Trail ride's format over 3 days.... More

These cabins are tucked up into a hillside in downtown Custer. They are very clean and have comfortable beds. There is an outdoor hot tub, and the city pool is nearby. The proprietors are very friendly and helpful. We will stay here again, next time we can.

My husband and I stayed four nights (cabin #4) in June 2013. It was very clean and well appointed. Feeling was very cozy and private. Parking in front of your cabin is a plus. Quiet setting on mountainside was peaceful. The owners are very nice and helpful. Loved having the kitchenette area so it was easy to eat meals in... More

We stayed for five days in cabin #8 with our teenage daughters. We instantly fell in love with Custer State Park and visited every day, either before or after other excursions. This is their largest cabin: queen bedroom, queen bed in living area, single loft bedroom, small kitchen, and a generous covered porch. The kitchen does not have an oven,... More
