This spot is run by a woman named Neria. No one in the town speaks English, so I was forced to use my awful Spanish but everyone was continuously kind and welcoming. It had been a year since I last visited Uaxactún. I was sorry I missed the spring equinox as the sun rose this year beautifully illustrating this Maya astronomy site, reputed to be the most ancient in the Maya civilization. I love Uaxactun and the ancient observatory there, reputed to be the place where the Maya perfected their calendar. The ruins are very peaceful, magical and off the beaten track of tourism.
