Great place to stay if you're looking to visit Tikal or Yaxha. The staff is friendly and always looking to help. The restaurant is very good so make sure you get your daily meal vouchers. Our room was always clean and the grounds are well maintained. We often found ourselves just laying in our room or sitting out in the... more

Don David's was the perfect location for our outings in El Peten. The staff, including Don David himself, were knowledgeable and friendly and eager to assist. The grounds were beautiful and the room ample, clean, and comfortable. The restaurant served delicious food at great prices. My 11 year old loved everything he was served. Of all three of our hotels... more

La Casa de Don David, hotel and restaurant were superb! The rooms were "tipico", clean and the ac cool. The food was the best. My favorite the sopa frijoles con fresh sour cream and the plantains fritas con crema. The view of the lake was spectacular and the grounds were beautiful with local flora and fauna. We enjoyed the hammocks... more

We stayed at Don David's while visiting Tikal and had a very pleasant experience overall. There were 4 adults in our party. The rooms are spartan but they were clean and the bathrooms were fine. The main reason we stayed there was because it seemed to be the only reasonable accommodation with a/c close to Tikal. We stayed in the... more

I choose to stay at El Remate and La Casa de Don David after reading the reviews, and am so glad I did. It was a clean, safe, relaxing environment and everyone was warm, friendly and helpful. El Remate is a small town and if you want a more lively atmosphere with lots of people, then maybe Flores would be... more

After debating the options of staying in Tikal itself, or in the larger city of Flores, we chose El Remate in the middle - and are glad we did. Casa de Don David served as a good base from which to explore Tikal. Pros: - Location: in El Remate (on the road from Flores to Tikal), but off the main... more

Having just returned from a two week trip in Guatemala I want to extend my thanks to those who shared their experiences here and thus made my travels much more comfortable and enjoyable. I'd like to add some of my experiences to the mix. Although I recognize the convenience of staying at one of the three hotels that are within... more

Third trip to Guatemala and I have finally come to the conclusion that you should not stay on the site at Tikal. The hotels there are seriously overpriced with disinterested service. Stay at the Don David instead. It's only 15 minutes from Tikal and is so much better. A/C is a huge plus and the food is great. I found... more

This place was a good launching point for our visit to Tikal, since it's the closest hotel with a decent price. The staff was great, and we set up our tour right from here. The hotel itself was spotless and had a/c (which we needed in this area of Guatemala), internet and a decent restaurant. There is also a nature... more

I have been staying at a small hotel/hostel near the entrance to Tikal, the major Mayan ruin in Central America. The hotel is located in a small village called El Remate. I am part of of medical group that works each year in Belize and I discovered this hotel and its owner 12 years ago when he had 2 rooms... more
