Very nice staff, front desk ladies are exceptional. Rooms are beautiful with exposed bricks and wooden beams. Our room actually had a cathedral ceiling. Courtyard is quaint. Pool is cozy. Beds comfortable. Very nice spacious room. Would definitely stay here again and again. Ghosts don't scare me. :)

We booked a double room. But when we arrived our room reservation had been changed to one king. We booked a double room from a reason. No one called to notify us. The next room we received had an ant infestation. At night the ants weren't as active. Maybe one or two by the window seal. I guess the construction... More

The hotel was certainly a treasure to find. I am originally from this area and never heard of this hotel before. It was fantastic.Great location for everything that was going on during Mardi Gras. Room was spacious and clean. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. I will definitely book this hotel again.

I stayed at the St. James hotel on Magazine Street just outside of the French Quarter the 21st - the 25th of January and would recommend it highly. It’s a lovely four story, boutique hotel, in the Creole style--wrought iron across the front balconies. The fresh, clean, recently re-decorated rooms had cable TV, charging station/alarm clock for my phone &... More

The front desk person who checked us in, Ariel, was very friendly and informative. She went out of her way to make sure we would enjoy our trip and is a valuable member of your staff (even though we didn't get to taste her Mama's gumbo). The room was rather small but was fine for our purposes and had a... More

Stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed it hugely! 5 minute walk from Bourbon Street and the main road in New Orleans. Crossiants and juice delivered to the room each morning, comfy bed with TV and great bathroom. Staff very helpful in pointing out places to eat and telling us where tours and trips go from. Great find and well priced!

I spent five nights at the St. James on a recent trip to New Orleans for a conference and had an overall pleasant stay. The hotel is in the central business district, with only a few minutes walk to the conference center in one direction as well as the French Quarter in the other direction and is surrounded by coffee... Charming, spacious rooms with hardwood floors and very nice furnishings, bathrooms are beautiful. Small courtyard with lush greenery. And... Coffee, orange juice and fresh croissants hand delivered to your room in the mornings! What could be better? Shhh- don't let our secret out! Living just 2 1/2 hrs from Nola, we go frequently for weekend getaways. Love this place!

The staff were all very friendly. It is currently undergoing renovation but it was not too bad. We were on the third floor and did not hear any construction noise. The rooms are small but the bed was very comfortable. The shower was excellent. It is close to Bourbon Street. Would definitely stay here again.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
