If you don't mind the fact that this hostel is very mismatched, with a run-down feel and generally lacking in security (the rooms are safe), then this is the place for you. Due to this, India House is very welcoming and relaxed, with a lot of hippy-type people there. Pros: Atmosphere, good kitchen, beer fridge, POOL, air con in rooms,... More

This hostel is great, and is possibly one of the best places I've ever stayed at. It's really quirky and has a great atmosphere. Great value too. Would thoroughly recommend to all, especially young travellers

A hostel is only as good as the people you meet there. I was luckily enough to be there at the same time as a great bunch of other ppl, most of who will remain friends. India House is perfectly set up to have such experiences.... from the pool, to the decking area, the amazing breakfast to the incredible nights!... More

Stayed in this hostel at the beginning of august in a 2 bed private room. Found the beds to be really creaky, broken, and the sheets wernt particularly fresh. The air con and door lock worked but those were the only plus points of the room. The common areas was nice as well as the outside patio and pool with... More

It was the most horrible and dirtiest place at the same time I've ever stayed! When I first walked in this really strange guy welcomed me. To me he looked like he was knocked out by some drugs! He wasn't friendly and looked very filthy! I immediately thought that the next two nights are going to be really hard for... More

I stayed at India house over the weekend. I must admit I went in with low expectations. it was mostly due to the price which was only $20/night for a 12 bed mixed dorm. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy when I got there but it was just how it looked as it was quite safe and people parked there... More

Stayed here for a few days, loved it. All the people who stayed here are awesome, and the building is fine. However the staff completely and utterly let it down. We found them on the whole to be extremely rude and unhelpful. From the start they were unwelcoming and disorganised, and it detoriated from there. I would recommend a stay... More

I LOVED India House! Over my three month stay in the USA, I stayed in many hostels and this was by far the best. The location is amazing, 2 minutes from the streetcar stop and only 20 minutes to the French Quarter and central districts. The hostel is insanely cheap, and is huge, charming and comfortable. The main reception area/entrance... More

My friends and I were in New Orleans for a night and needed somewhere inexpensive, we initial loved the place, the front desk associate was very helpfully. The buildings were gorgeous as well as the bathrooms. Overall the location had an amazing atmosphere and everyone was having a good time. Wish I could have stayed longer!

I loved India house ! Such a quirky place with some awesome people. The staff keep themselves to themselves, but I wouldn't say they are unfriendly and they managed to help me out a couple of times. It's not very clean, but as a backpacker this doesn't really phase me. They have cheap breakfasts and dinners which taste pretty good.... More
