I loved India house ! Such a quirky place with some awesome people. The staff keep themselves to themselves, but I wouldn't say they are unfriendly and they managed to help me out a couple of times. It's not very clean, but as a backpacker this doesn't really phase me. They have cheap breakfasts and dinners which taste pretty good.... More

Had to make two different reservations which was okay. First reservation was for the private room for two days. Although the front desk are pretty decent they lack manners. I had to tote my luggage through several rooms down some stairs into a jungle looking backyard where a multitude of people were gathered drinking beer. After getting the five minute... More

I stayed here with a friend for 4 nights in early June 2014. We had a 2 bed private room with a bathroom for less than $30/night each, absolute bargain! The outdoor area was huge, it was a great place to meet people, we ended up heading out with 4 others one night. People were all friendly, cheap dinners if... More

Nice facilities, unfortunately run by utterly unpleasant people. The guy who unenthusiasticly checked us in didn't manage to communicate the single most important fact about our stay to any of the 4 in our party - that to stay for the two nights we asked for, we had to recheck in the next morning. Hence we were rudely told to... More

india house is super cheap, the cheapest we could find in new orleans location is good: very close to canal st.street car that takes you directly to the french quarter in 15 minutes it has a good vibe, relaxed young travellers it's reasonably clean, no bugs and stuff BUT it's run down, holes in the walls, crappy locks on the... I rarely write negative reviews but this experience warrants it. I've stayed at a few hostels in the US and plenty more in Europe and this one is the worst by orders of magnitude. A friend and I stayed at India House for three nights a couple of months ago, in a twin private room, not during Mardi Gras or... More

Stayed in a female dorm in the main house for four nights. This place is definitely not for all, but I liked staying there. The room wasn't very clean and there was lots of stuff left behind by the former guests, the ceiling lamp didn't work and the ac was totally useless. There aren't enough bathrooms for the amount of... More

I´ve been there to Memorial Day weekend, 2014. Good points: excellent price, flexible check-in time, great people, best location, staff nice and help, best prices to tour. Bad points: two bathroom to all people in the hostel to share with male and female, unclean, the staffs come to female rooms sometimes to help new guest. The best one is because I... More

I've stayed in a few hostels across America and have enjoyed every one but this is the first one I've hated. We were only staying for one night (which was more than enough!) so unfortunately I can't comment on the atmosphere as we didn't have much time to interact with other travellers. Our room though was basically a small shack... More

Great atmosphere, lots of cool peace and close to the streetcar so you're never far from the center. The not so positive part: The dorms are probably the most unclean and worn down I've stayed in during my 2 months backpacking in USA. During rain, they would put out buckets in the room to collect water coming from the ceiling.... More
