Affordable, friendly, safe, close to the trolly that takes you right to Bourbon Street, cool pool, you can buy breakfast and dinner there, the travelers and foreigners you meet there are awesome and very friendly, with great stories to tell! Stayed 2 nights, great experience.

We stayed here for a weekend before we went on a 5 day cruise to Mexico. Basically we were just looking for a cheap place to sleep while we ate (not drank) our way through New Orleans. We booked a private room with a private bathroom because I can't fathom sleeping/using the facilities next to strangers. What we got was... More

Staying at the India House was a delight. It offers a variety of rooms and experiences from private bath/bed combos to very social dorm rooms with bunk-beds. My sweet heart and I had the pleasure of experiencing a lively pool, kitchen and common areas, then retreating to our much quieter (and air conditioned) private room. Certainly not for the high... I actually stayed in India House in 2012 with my sister, it was Halloween and it was packed with cool funny people. It is not exactly the most clean place I have stayed but I really didn't care as we were having such a great time. Great place to meet people because of their much inviting courtyard and home cooked... More

Good, social atmosphere, location great right across the road from the streetcar. Had a swimming pool although maintenance was being done while we were there (told us it would be a day and we were there 5 days, still not finished or usable). Provide meals for very cheap $6 every night. Great social areas outside and inside. The hostel was... More

If you don't mind the fact that this hostel is very mismatched, with a run-down feel and generally lacking in security (the rooms are safe), then this is the place for you. Due to this, India House is very welcoming and relaxed, with a lot of hippy-type people there. Pros: Atmosphere, good kitchen, beer fridge, POOL, air con in rooms,... More

This hostel is great, and is possibly one of the best places I've ever stayed at. It's really quirky and has a great atmosphere. Great value too. Would thoroughly recommend to all, especially young travellers

A hostel is only as good as the people you meet there. I was luckily enough to be there at the same time as a great bunch of other ppl, most of who will remain friends. India House is perfectly set up to have such experiences.... from the pool, to the decking area, the amazing breakfast to the incredible nights!... More

Stayed here in late July for 5 days, booked a 4 bed private room, rooms were very clean and spacious and the hostel had a great social environment. India house also had a pool which was rare for a hostel and it's in a great location. Staff were also very friendly and helpful, would definitely stay here again.

Stayed in this hostel at the beginning of august in a 2 bed private room. Found the beds to be really creaky, broken, and the sheets wernt particularly fresh. The air con and door lock worked but those were the only plus points of the room. The common areas was nice as well as the outside patio and pool with... More
