What people don't seem to understand about this hotel is that most hotels in the area cost upwards of $150/night. The empress, on an off season, costs about $30 so you are getting the same as a european hostel - safe hotel, clean beds, basic amenities and locked doors. I stayed in the Empress for the New Year and I have to say it is not a 5star hotel but for the price I was very happy the staff was very helpful and the location was great only 5 a five minute walk to Bourbon Street. I would highly recomend this hotel for the budget minded traveler. 5 Stars... more
