I stayed at Girod House in New Orleans over New Years. I was surprised to find that the room and hotel were in ill repair. The room had a broken dishwasher, burnt out light bulbs, missing light shades, painted shut windows, curtains that wouldn't open and shut, bathroom in need of remodel, funky mattress and linens etc. The ample closets came with three hangers between them. I have to say it was the funkiest $225 a night hotel I've ever stayed in, although the location was great and it kind of grew on me. There was no one at the front desk most of the time. It seemed to be completely unattended except during check-in and check-out. I thought we were staying at a bed and breakfast and was surprised to find that breakfast consisted of two sweet rolls left in our room the night before, two bottles of fruit juice (usually except for the day they forgot), and two yogurts.
