My wife and I always like to try out the interesting hotels when we travel and we've stayed at several in N.O. as well. It felt like we were in a princess's room, the tiniest of them that is. A 3 foot tub doesn't exactly exude common luxuries. We were a little shocked that there was no complimentary breakfast but... More

RHusser, What a nasty little person you are :) Seriously! Larger rooms (of which we have many) cost more. The "princess" room and the 3 foot tub (joke) are booked by those that want to spend less. Hard concept to grasp for you it looks like. I noticed you were "...a little shocked that there was no complimentary breakfast.." Where... More

Cornstalk is in a great location on Royal Street, one block from Bourban Street. So if you are looking for convenience, nice location. Property maintenance OK, with a security being an issue. Exterior hotel door did not close properly so pass code lock not effective. Doors to hotel rooms were of poor quality and had gaping holes where the doors... More

Hello patmatleo0, Thank you for your review of the Cornstalk Hotel. It’s great to hear that you enjoyed our historic setting, convenient location, and friendly staff. We stayed in two different rooms as we booked last minute and the lower priced room wasn't available both nights. The staff was very accommodating and moved our luggage for us so that we didn't have to do it. The first room in room number 1 was charming but the bathroom was way too tiny. If you are tall, this... This is our second stay at the Cornstalk, separated by nearly 30 years. This is a charming hotel, with old world touches in the furniture, wall coverings, etc. The verandas offer you an opportunity to sit and watch the world go by, to hear the musician(s) across the street in the evening and the stories from the ghost tour plus... Stepping into this hotel is like stepping back in time. My husband and I stayed her for a couples night out in the French quarter and were delighted with the antique decor and relaxing atmosphere. The beds were very comfortable, the temperature just perfect. The hotel clerk, Jacklyn, was very helpful and made sure we had a champagne bucket with... More

The room was beautiful quite large. The upper balcony and lower porch and courtyard were very inviting. We loved the location as it is close to everything but quiet and just off the main streets. Bathrooms are very small and Staff was great and very friendly.

This hotel is an historic building in the heart of the French Quarter. It really couldn't be any more convenient for touring that area. It's close enough to the attractions to walk, yet just set back enough to be quiet. The place is called the Cornstalk because of the cornstalk fence. One of our walking tours went by there and... Great customer service, comfortable room, lovely outside areas to sit. Close to Bourbon St and also to Jackson Square don't miss this gem. We loved all of the Victorian details, supposed to be haunted but no sightings while we were there. :)

Staying in French Quarter

Neighborhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
