My review of the Edgewater is a tale of two hotels - because the Edgewater is kinda schizophrenic. On one hand, the Edgewater has some BEAUTIFUL public spaces. Their conference rooms are gorgeous. The lobby is beautiful, and the bar and restaurant are elegant. I've been to events here, and if I was planning a meeting, wedding, etc. I wouldn't... more

I have been to Madison numerous times but had never stayed at the Edgewater Hotel. From now on it is the only property I will stay at in Madison. My corner room was spacious with a great view of the lake. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and well maintained. more

I hate to give negative reviews, especially to hotels where I have stayed enjoyably before. However, the Edgewater is not nearly living up to its past. We had a luxury room overlooking the lake. The view was great but the window was grimy and speckled with bird droppings. The decor is fading, and there were stains on the ceiling of... more

We like the Edgewater very much. The location, very near to the campus, and the lake views are hard to beat. We’ve stayed there in September (or October) for a football weekend each year from 2004-2007. And we’re going back again in October 2008. The key to a good experience is avoiding rooms in the original tower and booking a... more

I was very let down by the hotel. It's an old hotel that hasn't been renovated enough to charge the price that it does. It was noisy. I could here every toilet flush, every shower start and stop, fraternity brothers singing songs. They "upgraded" me to a room above the dishwasher. We declined that room after hearing the fraternity brothers... more

I travel to Madison often, and I love the Edgewater. I went to college here in the 1970's and the Edgewater was the Grand Hotel at that time. It has faded a bit and some things are not as they used to be, but I have had excellent service there and I feel like I've traveled back in time. I... more

I loved the Edgewater Hotel. Madison is a great town, first of all. Very scenic. Great restaurants and shops. Good theatre scene. Beautiful old homes. Nice parks. The Edgewater does not look like much from the outside, and even inside it is a bit dated. But we had a room on the lower level directly over the lake. It was... more

Stayed here with our Great Dane and wasn't even charged a pet fee. Staff was good, easy access to walking the dog and clean rooms. Madsion is a fun town to visit, great restaurants and bars. Of course went went to the Great Dane Pub which had some good beers. more

A snowy visit to Madison for a concert became a memorable, magical evening that included dinner and an overnight stay at the Edgewater Hotel in downtown Madison. Always a favorite of ours for dining, we opted to also stay overnight so we could make the best use of our time--combining Christmas shopping, viewing the capitol Christmas tree, a concert at... more

My wife and I and most of her extended family spent the weekend at the Edgewater for a wedding. For a place that seems to have a grand reputation for class and service I was woefully unimpressed. Was it the view of the brick wall out the window, or the kegger that was going on in the Fraternity/Sorority House [?]... more
