We were booked her for 3 nights as part of an organised trip. The setting is like going back in time. Our room was ok but nothing special. In fact it needed updating-chipped wood on the door into the bathroom. The service in the terrace cafe was generally slow-there didn't seem to be enough staff. However, the indian restaurant at... The best thing about our stay in The Grand Hotel is it was only for one night. I accept that it was the holiday period, however, the reception staff were far from accommodating. Once we were checked into our (adjoining) rooms the disappointment set in. As two couples we weren't expecting to be checked into rooms both with three single... More

Had the lunch "special" instead of the afternoon tea and was good. Overlooking the front driveway was not and really disappointing- I expected so much more. Returned later after a walk around and sampled the excellent cakes (ie great eclairs for 150 rupees) but stung by the price of a tea- by the cup as pots not provided! Nice and... More

It's not every day that you get to stay in the former Brittish Governors mansion, (so we didn't) what we did do was have high tea and a few drinks in the tea room over looking the gardens, and can tell you it's like being transported back to another time, I was half expecting some old blighter with a handlebar... My wife and I stayed for 3 nights at the end of December 2014. It is a picture postcard of a place with beautiful gardens surrounding a huge and striking building which will make many tourists feel they are staying in upper class luxury. Well many years ago, before they over extended the hotel that was probably true. We feel... More

Getting up into the beautiful tea hills and away from the heat/humidity of the rest of Sri Lanka is a welcome retreat and the Grand Hotel feels like days gone by. In some aspects, this is a delight. High tea on the lawn, a snooker room with a scorer on hand and where one must wear trousers/shoes to play. The... More

Checked in for a 2 night stay in Nuwara Eliya at the Grand Hotel. The Hotel is a classic old hotel that dates back to the late 1800s. It is a beautiful looking hotel from the outside but once in your room the problems start to occur. We stayed in room 102 which is a suite room. Below is a... More

The Grand Hotel is an excellent hotel, where you can embrace the atmosphere of being in early 1920s. Rooms are large, breakfast delicious, many different restaurants inside the hotel. The park is brialliant and perfectly kept. Spa is not so good. The hotel has european prices but it worths the price.

Impressive old world charm in this old Governors Residence. Not overly impressed with the room we had. The walls were thin, the floor boards creaked and you could hear people talking in the next room. Beds we pretty good though. The best thing about this place though was the restaurant. We went down for the usual buffet style dinner, and... More
