I stayed one night while on an Exodus group tour. This is a beautiful, old, colonial, English hotel. Beautifully decorated. Men, pack a button up shirt, jacket and tie (loaned) required in the formal dining room. Excellent food and service, waiters in white gloves, fun and cool.

An absolutely wonderful historic building kept in the past. full of old fashioned colonial British touches. The formal dinner was a hoot, the grounds fantastic and the hot water bottle a bit puzzling!

The special touch here was the hot water bottle placed in the bed even though it really was not cold enough to appreciate it. It has lovely gardens and is only a five minute walk down town so very conveniently situated. One of the big attractions was the special formal dinner but we felt this was really over the top... We both loved this hotel the moment we saw it. It is set in lovely grounds that could be any where in England. You can have tea on the terraced garden and think you were in England. The hotel bedroom was lovely with wooden floorboards and old decor, the only thing out of place was the modern electric fire placed... More

Nuraya Eliya was the favourite hill station in the heyday of British colonialism and the whole area, the hotel in particular, has a very British feel. The hotel is about a ten-minute walk from town. The grounds are immaculately manicured and it has a lovely colonial interior complete with billiard room and comfortable lounge. The rooms were spacious and comfortable.... More

We visited The Hill Club on the 19/3/2014, it was only one night. It has the most beautiful gardens & old world charm building. Unfortunately they need to update the facilities with in establishment. The bathrooms had mildew on the shower curtains & between the tiles, the bathmats were in tatters. The heater in my room was not working which... More

We stayed for one night with a tour group. The dining room was impressive, requiring jacket and tie for all male diners (they have loaners) as was the dinner, but the bedroom and bathroom were badly in need of rehabbing. It has too many English pretensions for my tastes (I grew up in that country). Since Sri Lankan February weather... More

We love this hotel it's a step back in time, we have stayed here so many times a visit to Nuwara Eliya would never be the same staying anywhere else. Yes it's dated but that is it's charm that's why most people stay there. You have to love it for what it is a piece of history that takes you... More

Very enjoyable visit. I felt I was taken back in time in the formality of the Victorian era, when Men and Ladies dressed for dinner, the place settings were elaborate and 'totally correct', the waiters were immaculately dressed and wore one white glove. Thoroughly enjoyable meal - the best during our ten day holiday. I let slip that we were... More

The Hill Club is still a members club, which permits/encourages visitors to stay. I was last there sixty years ago and found that I knew three of the past presidents, whose names were proudly displayed on the board in the reading room. So I am hardly a typical reviewer. If you want a Mandarin Oriental, or an Intercontinental, this may... More
