The Hill Club at Nuwara Eliya in the high country of Sri Lanka should be on every historian's bucket list. It has an old world charm that is sorely lacking today. The refuge of tea planters for over a hundred years the Club has imbibed their spirit and it oozes colonial charm. Spend time looking at the pictures in the... More

My boyfriend and I spent our anniversary in Sri Lanka and our second day we stayed in The hill club!! He Saturday in UK for long so he loved the place coz he said he feels his in UK. We are both hotelier/we work in hotel..I believe it was a great act of preserving the tradition however the basic service... More

What an incredible place. Our group of four booked in for formal dinning and were not disappointed. It was an amazing experience. The staff were fantastic and the food delicious. We were so surprised to find such a gem in Sri Lanka especially after reading the other reviews on Trip Advisor. I personally think the reviews are too harsh. This... More

My adult son and I stayed in a suite at the Hill Club. The suite was a very large room with large comfortable twin beds, a wardrobe, two desks, a vanity, fireplace, large sitting area and many other amenities. I felt that the room was a very relaxing room. There was no need for air-conditioning since the room was a... More

I feel I am not doing justice to this wonderful place by giving just the "average" rating although some areas were excellent! Lets start in the excellent area's! Stayed here for 4 nights and the food was always superb accompanied by efficient, courteous service. The Restaurant service staff were really good inspite of the fact that we were a fairly... More

A great colonial era hotel with grand ambience. The hotel is reached up a sweeping driveway through manicured grounds on the top of a hill. A extremely impressive building and entrance which would not be out of place in the English countryside, which is of course it's heritage. We were greeted warmly and seated in a grand lounge area with... More

The Hill Club is basically a bit of a novelty. It's a throwback to a bygone era where men wore dinner jackets and women weren't allowed to participate in social occasions. Unfortunately the hotel has kept rather too many of the 'traditions' and has refused to modernise to keep up with the times. I'll start with the good things; the... More

If you like the old communal style, club style living, then this place is fantastic!! Old rooms with tall ceilings, huge bathrooms, high beds, but very neat and clean. Rooms are not stuffy. The hotel is vast in terms of breadth. It has a nice and cozy library. The golf enthusiasts (like me), the golf course is bang opposite the... More

Having booked a standard room, we were shown to Hills Cottage. The room was poorly furnished, tacky, unclean, fridge dumped on the floor unplugged, no complimentary tea making facilities, and soap and shampoo sachets which must have been bought in the market. When we complained the management insisted we had a superior room. They were obstuctive in their attitude and condescending... More

My husband and I were planning to spend our 5th Wedding Anniversary ,in August 2015, in Nuwara Eliya and were checking on TripAdvisor for Good Hotels when we came across “ The Hill Club , Nuwara Eliya”. My husband tried to make the online booking on booking.com and spent 10 minutes going through the booking process. At the final stage,... More
