Deep memories abound from our most recent visit in November 2014. The Hill Club's flavour and ambiance still capture past colonial life. The billiard rooms with their ancient tables are timeless and wonderful places to enjoy snooker with pre-dinner drinks. Fine dinner where we utilized the moderate corkage charge rather than the Club's overpriced wines, but perhaps too much attention... More

Ah...the Hill Club. What can I say? It sits there looking like a leopard on the side of a gentle hill gesturing towards a much grander – and possibly more efficient – past. It beckons you – you, the lover of colonial hotel experiences. As they say in the real estate game, the Hill club is an emotional choice, not... More

We only came for a cup of tea here. I'm glad we did because it is quite entertaining. I think we paid $17 for tea and cake. We also had to pay a fee of 100 rupees to join the club. If you treat it like a museum it is a reasonable price and includes free tea and cake. And... More

first of all from what I know this is a club and not a typical hotel as one may think. If you do want to dine in the main dinning room men have to be fully dressed that with tie and coat women shall wear suitable attire as well. This is only for dinner. Anyway anybody who does not want... More

The was the absolute worst place I have stayed in Sri Lanka. The bathroom was disgusting , It needs a definite make over. Bed bugs and the room smells musty. I honestly don't understand how ppl have written it's excellent, maybe they are used to living in a dumpster. Dining wAs horrific as well , ants in the butter. The... More

Lovely old building from the outside, dark and dreary on the inside. It's no longer colonial, it's just been left to get old and die a slow and painful death. The rooms are shocking, the decor seems to be from when it first opened in 1847. The bedspreads and curtains are shocking, everything is in need of some tender loving... More

this hotel looks from the outside like a english landhouse. Inside the rooms you do not see that. The rooms are old and cold. In the evening the housekeeping put a warm water bag inside the bed that was very kind. I also needed extra blankets

I got Hill Club recommended by actually a member of the golf club. And since I got there he is apologising. This place definitely had its days of glory. But sorry, they are gone. We were a group of 3 ladies, taking a triple room and after a really short time we actually felt disciminated. We didn´t receive warm towels,... More

We stayed in a cottage c3 as children are not allowed in the main building. We stayed for 5 nights and had a wonderful time. The club is old with history and is very well maintained. Thou the club policy says children are not allowed in main building we had no problem when we took our boy to have breakfast... More
