I have given the hotel 3 stars, because that's what you should expect if you stay here, but as a unique experience to remember it ranks much higher. Yes the bathrooms are awful, yes it is in need of investment, and yes the clientele is no longer English upper class. But where else do you find a hot water bottle... More

My wife and I stayed in the Hill Club in February 2014 and, as we are in Sri Lanka again this year, we decided to go back up there for a couple of nights. The Hill Club itself has obviously not changed much physically during the past year but there appears to have been a change in the type of... More

What a shame that this once 'grand' hotel has let its standards slip. The approach and the grounds to this hotel are lovely but once inside things are very different. On the surface things are what you would expect from and old Colonial hotel, saggy sofas, Billiards room, old paintings and animal heads on the walls - but this hotel... More

The last time I stayed at the Hill Club was 1988. I am happy to report not much has changed. Charm and ambiance are the salient points of this grand old hotel. Of course there have been updates (TV, wifi, etc) but much is the same, including the lovely dining room and charming public areas. Rooms are very comfortable, but... More

Yes, it's changed and is a little bit tired in places but if you want "glitz", then find yourselves a Shangri La or Four Seasons. Otherwise don't complain about experiencing some good old fashioned British history. Yes, we wanted to dress for dinner and we did. And we enjoyed our coffee beside the big open fire. And we enjoyed our... More

The decor may or may not be to some people's taste, but we found it very interesting and almost fascinating to see a snapshot of life from the colonial era. This place is supposed to be preserved, its not trying to be something else. The service was excellent in every way for us and we couldn't find fault anywhere. The... More

We were looking forward to staying at this hotel because of the history it holds, but to be honest it was a real disappointment. We did not get a room in the main bldg, since we had a four old travelling with us.we were not informed abt this earlier by our travel agent. They finally managed to fit us in... More

What an experience, white gloved waiters, wonderful 5 course menu with candelabra and a roaring log fire added to the requirement to wear jacket and tie, it can only be a taste of bygone times. We recommend if in the area to go and savour a very pleasant evening, it costs 100 rps for temporary membership ( 50p ) trust... More

We ushered in 2015 at the hill club in the peaceful , quaint , tea garden hill station of Nuwara iliya in central Sri Lanka. The boarding and lodging facilities and service were par excellence and a personal interest by the manager was praiseworthy. Being a colonial heritage club one could sense the past in the present !!. We were... More
