Yes this hotel was dark, grubby and run down with not the most efficient staff but somehow I liked it here. The old Colonial style architecture was interesting, the rooms were enormous and the location was good. It felt like staying in an old country lodge. The breakfast was average but we had an evening meal here one night which... More

This is an interesting old heritage style hotel with characterful architecture and a nice outward appearance. The dark, echoing halls and unremarkable rooms are a letdown. The rooms are large but have too many gaps around the doors and a lot of noise enters the room from outside. The rooms are also cold, there are few TV choices and the... More

With the price , it's not bad . Peaceful and decent with good architecture. . Location is good . There's a fireplace in the room as well . The restaurant is empty though . Lake gregory is a minute away and view is of the race course

A strange experience. It was chilly and the atmosphere of the house matched the weather. Room not well prepared, we had to ask for towels and a toilet roll. No firewood available, they said it was the end of the season. Shower room very basic and in a poor state of repair. Food mediocre, they were hard pressed to find... More

Stayed one night here which was enough. Ignore the Rough Guide's write up. Too dark Too basic Dirty shower room We were the only people who ate here for dinner. Enjoyed the evening drinking at The Grand Hotel by the fire, which seemed splendid by comparison. Sorry Grosvenor but have to say you have fallen way behind the times...place needs... More

The hotel was old, rooms were below average, the bed was noisy and disturbing. The service was nothing great but nothing bad either. The hotel corridor was unusually dark and quiet. The food was average. The hotel has good potential but needs some renovation and care. Its good for a night if you want to experience the old charm thats it.

Whilst I agree with the majority of post, with some TLC and cash this place would be great. Staff were polite and helpful. The character of the building and its history was there for all to see. Downside no hot water or heating!!!

The hotel was dark and creepy withought heating (except chimney) The bathroom wasnt very clean. The old interiors could be arranged nicer. Avoid having dinner in this place (no surprised we were alone in the restaurant) Wifi only in lobby.

Used to be an extravagant location. Big rooms but very cold, fireplace but expensive fire wood, not clean enough, dampy smelly bathroom, average food. We had a clear dry day, not to think of it with rain.
