A strange experience. It was chilly and the atmosphere of the house matched the weather. Room not well prepared, we had to ask for towels and a toilet roll. No firewood available, they said it was the end of the season. Shower room very basic and in a poor state of repair. Food mediocre, they were hard pressed to find... More

Stayed one night here which was enough. Ignore the Rough Guide's write up. Too dark Too basic Dirty shower room We were the only people who ate here for dinner. Enjoyed the evening drinking at The Grand Hotel by the fire, which seemed splendid by comparison. Sorry Grosvenor but have to say you have fallen way behind the times...place needs... More

The hotel was old, rooms were below average, the bed was noisy and disturbing. The service was nothing great but nothing bad either. The hotel corridor was unusually dark and quiet. The food was average. The hotel has good potential but needs some renovation and care. Its good for a night if you want to experience the old charm thats it.

Whilst I agree with the majority of post, with some TLC and cash this place would be great. Staff were polite and helpful. The character of the building and its history was there for all to see. Downside no hot water or heating!!!

The hotel was dark and creepy withought heating (except chimney) The bathroom wasnt very clean. The old interiors could be arranged nicer. Avoid having dinner in this place (no surprised we were alone in the restaurant) Wifi only in lobby.

Used to be an extravagant location. Big rooms but very cold, fireplace but expensive fire wood, not clean enough, dampy smelly bathroom, average food. We had a clear dry day, not to think of it with rain.

From an architectural point of view, the place is worth the visit as it used to be the governor's house. Built in a colonial style this place makes you travel through time. The rooms are very spacious and quite nice but as we visited this hotel during the rainy and cold season, we spent the coldest night ever ! The... More

This is a warning to all to be careful when making any bookings online. I had a terrible experience and got scammed by a website that claims to be the Grosvenor Hotel. I booked and paid online, directly through (what I could only assume was) the hotel's website. When I (single female) arrived at the hotel after dark, the large... More

We stayed 1 night in this hotel during weeks of rain in December 2014. The inside of the buildings looks nice and majestic but don't let it fool you!!! At the moment we stepped inside the hotel we noticed the low cold temperature. Inside the room we had a moist damp smell! After a short while we saw that they... More

We first liked the place, a beautiful colonial building with character. Only to realise later it was miserable. No heating in the lounge or the room (and it gets really cold!!!). Just enough lighting. The manager was too busy watching sport on TV. Wifi very slow. We spent a cold night and we left.
