Nice enough, quiet hotel. Clean, spacious rooms and shower, but there was some sort of odd smell in the room at night. Views from the front are better than back side views of laundry and satellite dishes. Buffet style food is good, cutlery and glassware is clean, but don't try to move your placemat...it's stuck to the table. Staff is... More

This place was so disappointing. It was tired, felt dirty and uncared for. Staff were fine and overcame issues but were not really friendly as I found elsewhere in cheaper and more expensive places. I am sure this was great 15 years ago but the glam has gone. No atmosphere in the bar despite great decor. Such a shame.

everything nice. top tipp of lonely planet and most likely drawing attention from that. for the amount of money we spend per night (130US$) we would definetly choose sth more worthy next time. so everything ok but nothing outstanding.

First, the positives, hotel staff esp. the manager was extremely helpful and kind during a medical emergency that we faced. However, the hotel infrastructure was pretty outdated with a crampy room and washroom, TV channels not working and warm water suddenly disappeared on the checkout day.

We booked this hotel mainly on the basis on the Lonely Planet review but as we are coming to realise, the LP Writers were having an off month when updating the latest version of that guide. Glendower is currently opposite an enormous building site for a new shopping mall (probably due to finish next century) and is at best quirky... More

Billed as a charming testimony of the colonial era, this hotel has nothing charming, and the bathroom fittings -- including the shower curtains -- do date back to pre-independence.... This was a miserable stay. Furthermore, major construction is taking place before. We noticed it upon arrival but were promised by reception staff that it would stop at 7 pm. It... More

Beautiful rooms, charming pub, tasteful fireplace. Amenities - less than basic: sachet toiletries, no hair dryers (even on special request), musty smelling rooms. But overall - stay here if you the Grand Hotel is booked out.

This place is a classic colonial hotel with a fine restaurant. On arrival there was no table available so we waited at the fireplace. We ordered a bottle of wine and spring rolls to enjoy next to the fire. Waiters are very attentive and keep asking if all is well. The Chinese food we had was good. Not perfect, the... More

The Glendower is a big rambling series of bungalows all linked together, pannelled in wood with heavy traditional 'british style' furniture so a bit gloomy with little atmosphere. The bed was extremely comfortable and the hotel's best feature. The bar and billiard room are a blast from the past in this colonial style building, Mouldy bathroom and the building site... More

We arrived on a rainy and cold Day from the warm Kandy.. The hotel was dark (they may call it the colonial style, but I don't buy it), the room was cold, with no heating and we stayed in because of the rain (and had to put on our travelling clothes, meant for Norway). There is a building site next... More
