A stunning location overlooking the river. Easy access to the rainforest and its special birdlife on the opposite bank of the river. Staff very welcoming and food excellent. The hotel grounds are well maintained and attract a variety of interesting birds. Rooms are spacious with views of the river from the patio doors. Decor in rooms though could do with... More

My wife & I stayed at Kitulgala Rest House for 2 nights in Feb15 as part of our 3 week Cultural,Birding & Wildlife tour through A Baur Travel. We were apprehensive about the accommodation due to previous reviews but wanted to stay in Kitulgala for the birding and scenery. A Baur advised us the KRH was the best located though... More

The location by the river is great but the hotel is well over priced for the quality of the rooms. The food is fine but again overpriced for the quality. We paid just over LKR10,000 for a room with no AC, dinner and breakfast and were told that the room rate would have been double what we paid if we... More

This was the worst hotel I stayed in in all of Sri Lanka and possibly ever!! Rooms were so dirty; ants everywhere, the bed sheets had hairs and makeup on them. That night a scorpion was on our balcony and when we informed staff they told us it was fine a snake would probably come and eat it!! The whole... More

The absolute highlight of this rest house is its location - It's right on the river with beautiful views, and near by to some very picturesque villages and walks. The accommodation itself is quite basic - We had a non-ac room which was on the lower level and got very hot, and the water supply was very poor. The shower... More

This hotel is around $ 80 per night and then you might expect quality and good rooms. We were the only guest for one night and this had effect. The waiters were not interested and the food was overpriced. The rooms are bad, most of the bathroom was not working well and the bed was old and terrible. The doors... More

Ceylon Hotels Corporation´s Chairman Mr. Sanjeeve Gardiner had enhanced the rest house to give visitors an experience of being in a luxury hotel. The quality of food served, the facilities, the quality of service, the whole of the interior adds to this.

Stayed overnight here on a tour. Pretty basic, no a/c just ceiling fan and plenty of points for mozzies and geckos to get in your room but vaporiser provided. Nice riverside location but limited food choice.

To wake here on the bank of a beautiful river breaking in the shallows and overlooking jungles and mountains is truly a privilege that could hardly be bettered. The ferry man will be up early to take you across to the nature reserve on the opposite bank, and the first locals will be out bathing. Strange, then, that around the bend... More
