The hotel looks more like a house than a hotel. One can expect a few irregularities too. The erudite former ruler of Kota still lives in a part of this mansion which was once the British Residency. The food is good, and the ambience is regal yet friendly with royal memorabilia, family souvenirs and wildlife trophies decorating the rooms.

We stayed one night at the end of December 2012. I think we were the only people staying there. We stayed for 2 nights during our last trip to India. The staff were not welcoming and we felt that we were imposing on them. There was no one else staying in the hotel. We ate elesewhere in the evening. When we asked for breakfast to be served outside they grudgingly brought it out. The only good thing about the... More

We stayed there for 2 nights and it was truly magical. The Maharajah and his wife were there and, just like old films, she was on sitting outside being fanned by a servant. They did not mix with anyone however. Our room was large and the bathroom was huge. You truly felt that you were in the 1930's as there... More
