I've lived and traveleld in Namibia for a couple of years, and my first trip to Kaokoland and to Puros recently was amazing. Kaokoland - the roads are tough. Get used to averaging 20kmh or 30kmh in many sections. Take plenty of stops to just soak up the serenity, spot wildlife, and meet some Himba. Puros Camp is outstanding for... More

Exploring Puros’ desert, river basin and surrounding mountains was a wonderful, many facetted surprise with few other travelers around. The road journey itself was much more than doable. We only had 3 days, unfortunately. Next time it’ll be a week. Huge campsites, widely separated by gigantic Camel Thorn trees, tastefully enclosed hot showers and flush toilets, ample meal prep. area... More

Purros is a must to visit when in Namibia if you like remoteness and low tourist volume. The camp itself is spacious with huge acacias to shield you from the intense sun. Surrounding the camp is desert and mountains. Look down at the ground and you will see every kind of hoof print and spoor including lion, baboon, zebra and... More

We came in from the north and stayed two nights. The camp is well equipped with everything you need. We had two flushing toilets and two showers with hot water and a good area for a braai with a place to do the dish with water. And the staff were good and kept everything in good order. Perfect! The area... More

A beautiful camp location under spreading acacia trees, with frequent wildlife visitors. We got a friendly welcome and the prices were comparable with the other community-run camps we visited in NW Namibia. Good flush toilet, warm shower, nice tap/sink area. There was a problem with the septic system which stopped the sink from draining, and also caused flooding around the... More

Very nice place run by local community. Hot water and toilets integrated with big trees. Plenty of birds around helping you to achieve... well, everything you planned. Local guides to see Himba community and desert elephants.... To us the best camping in Kaokoland...

nice place to stay (not too much choice in this area anyway - there is also an extremely nice hotel on the other side of the valley, but it was something like 400 euros per night). very basic, no air conditioning, but good sleep. nicely situated by the river in what is in my view the most picturesque part of... This is one of the best camps run by the community in Namibia. Next to the Hoarusib river and with desert elephants visiting the camp from time to time. Real super campsites with good ablutions.

I have been to Puros Community Camp twice. There are no fences around and you are close to a dry riverbed where desert elephants, giraffe, monkeys, donkeys etc walk around. The toilet and shower is integrated under a huge tree so the environmental impact is minimal. The shower works on a donkey system so you have to heat up your... More
