In July 2014 we (2 Astrian adults and our 8 year old daughter) visited Meru and stayed 4 nights in Ikweta Safari Camp. The camp is situated about 2 km before you reach Murera gate and consists of 10 very spacious and clean tents only, which are nice decorated inside and have a private terrace in front of each tent.... My wife, Christi, and I stayed a few nights at Ikweta Safari Camp in June of 2014 with our ten-year old son and nineteen year-old nephew. The four of us truly enjoyed our time at Ikweta with Susan and John, along with their entire team. From Allan and his team at Reception, to Bwana Samuel and his team who carried... More

We stayed at Ikweta after our safari at Meru National Park. It was a great experience. Helpful and kind staff, one of the most delicious food I had in Kenya, nice swimming pool and what a lovely tent we had. Feels like an old fashion stay in a middle of savanna. If we have a chance, we will visit once... More

One of the most friendly and affordable luxury camp by far! The camp is run by a couple and they will make you feel right at home. There are beautifully decorated tents, a lovely refreshing swimming pool and the food is absolutely great. I give them 5 stars and highly recommend staying here.

Being my first holiday ever, i was not sure what to expect. The booking process was easy with the ever friendly help from one of the staff called Allan, who answered all my questions promptly. On arrival at the camp we were welcomed by smiling staff from the housekeeping department and then by the management of the camp. The tents... More

Where to start...we have just come from three days and two nights of full relaxation for the Easter break. My family i.e. my parents, brother and his wife and my sister all wanted a place not too far from Meru to go and relax together. I chose Ikweta Safari Camp because of the trip advisor reviews and I was not... More

If you love camping, wilderness and luxury, this is the place to visit. Our stay there begun much earlier than we arrived. Having left Nairobi a bit late, the owner, John Nkinyangi, kept in touch with us until we arrived in Maua ensuring that we are not lost and are okay. It helped that we had called to inform them... This was a fantastic place to stay. Relatively new, it had a few little issues to work out but they should be getting those up to par before long as they continue to improve. This was very close to Meru for game drives. The owners were very attentive and the staff was awkward compared to the staff at other camps... More

We spent three nights at Ikweta with a party of six adults. Susan and her staff are very friendly and helpful, and the main gate of Meru National Park is very close (three minute drive) to the camp. The tents are beautiful, spacious and clean, and the beds are excellent. The food is very good, and we very much enjoyed... More

I had a group of 20 people at Ikweta. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The tents are nice and comfortable and the food is very good. Also the prices are reasonable. Ikweta is a small camp with easy accessibility to Meru National Park.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ikweta Safari Camp, a small owner-operated tented camp, is about affordable luxury, as well as high standards and great value for money. Located just 2 km from the Murera Gate of Meru National Park, Ikweta is a year-round destination and a convenient base for exploring both Meru and Kora, two of Kenya’s national parks to offer a complete wilderness safari experience. Ikweta offers ten spacious canvas tents with thatch roof overlay of doum palm (Hyphaene thebaica) indigenous to the area. Tents are airy and cool by day and cozy and romantic by night. Tastefully decorated in Safari-style with high quality furniture including either twin or double beds, writing tables and safes. Each tent has its own en-suite bathroom with solar-heated hot water for showers separated from the bedroom area with a natural stone wall. Each has private verandah facing East for the most stunning sunrises. You can sip your early morning steamy hot Kenya coffee or Kenya tea, while you Facebook or Tweet as the sun rises over Meru National Park. Tents are fitted inside and out with electric power sockets for guests to be able to power their laptops or charge their electronic devices and camera batteries. Our large salt water Swimming Pool is delightfully warmed year round by glorious sunshine. Our “Two Zebras Restaurant" serves fresh produce grown in the Camp's own Greenhouse and Ikweta Farms. We offer international and vegetarian cuisines as well as children's menus. Each guest is served to order: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner! You're in the bush but we provide Wi-Fi access throughout the Camp: You can connect to the Internet by the Pool or at your Tent or in the Residents Lounge or at the Restaurant… Catch up with news on DSTV. No night time blackouts or ‘10:00 o’clock night-curfews”: There is mains electricity backed-up by a high-capacity generator. If you are awaked by the sounds of nature you can snuggle under your duvet and read or watch movies on your iPad or DVD. Optional morning and afternoon game drives or itineraries to interesting places in the vicinity of the Meru-Kora Conservation Area. Nature walks to the Gatwe (“Skull”) Hill for panoramic and spectacular views of the Meru-Kora Conservation Area and the Nyambene Hills. ... more   less
