This review is actually for Smokemont Campground, not Elkmont. There is no area on Trip Advisor to review Smokemont for some reason. I think it's probably very similar to Elkmont, so the review probably applies to both. Smokemont is on the North Carolina side of the park, in a nice and very convenient location, just off Newfound Gap Road. We... More

Our camping group that camps in teardrops and tiny trailers had a wonderful "Bug Weekend" by camping for a couple of nights at Elkmont in the Smoky Mountain National Park to view the synchronized fireflies and then driving over to Pickett State Park in Jamestown, TN to view the glow worms at Hazard Cave. During the planning phase, we started... More

Fantastic campground despite no showers. The riverside camping experience makes this a top place to stay. Bring tubes along to take advantage of this natural "waterpark" - the kids had a blast! Check your tent size with the platform size listed for your site - we were ok because we checked beforehand, but noticed more than a few overhanging tents.... More

Great campground right along the river. We were in Group site #4 and we felt like we had the whole campground to ourselves. It was great! The rest of the campground sites can feel like you are a bit on top of your neighbor but overall its a great campground. No showers, though, so get ready to take a jump... More

This was the 2nd stage of our family vacation. We were able to get a site on the little stream. It was nice to go to sleep after some long hiking days hearing the water. The camp side we were on was well kept and quite. This camp was perfect place to reach all the hiking spots in the Great... More

I've stayed at campgrounds in national parks all across the country and found Elkmont Campground to be above average. Our campsite was M02 and it was an excellent location. I imagine this area being the quieter section of the campground and there was quiet a bit of room between the campsites. If you are worried about feeling like you are... More

Elkmont Campground is surely not the greatest national park campground. Our space in G loop was shaded from the sun, but was all rocks and there was no privacy whatsoever. Restrooms are in need of upgrading (especially more light) and could be more clean. Ice, firewood and some limited food items are available at the concession, at decent price. We... More

I booked ahead of time and was able to get a spot on the river. The kids had such a blast playing in the river all day. It was quite a hot day at regular elevation, but it felt amazing at Elkmont. Some people brought tubes and were tubing down the river. The campsites were wooded along the river. Theres... More

We stayed here 2 nights in late June, after the scheduled fireflies "showings", but we still saw them throughout the park. Even saw them through the top of our tent at night. As for the campground, it was busy, due to the fireflies, but you wouldn't know it. The campground was quiet, the sites were spacious and clean. We will... More

My husband and I stayed here 2 nights for the synchronized lightening bugs. Our campsite was really clean, and we appreciated the privacy of our space. It was also close to 2 bathhouses. We will definitely camp here again.
