This is the largest campground in the Smokies and is very popular. Being only 15 minutes from Gatlinburg's vast array of restaurants & shopping makes it a good choice, but the real appeal is being in the space of nature with creeks and trail heads right there. The lack of showers, hot water and cell service only adds to the... More

When you camp here you will feel like you are in another world. The water is so relaxing and you can only hear what is going on at your campsite. There are trails to hike and the Ghost Town and graveyard. There are no showers so if you can't tough it out, I would only stay a night or two.

Elkmont campground is a great place to pitch your tent and get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life! No electricity, Wi-Fi, or showers really forces you to relax and enjoy your surroundings. I had a river site, J14 and it was perfect! Had a small forest in front of the river and have me the opportunity to... More

Camping the way it was 50 years ago.... totally unplugged. Great for kids of all ages to enjoy the natural surroundings. Hiking , biking or playing in the cold river water. A truly relaxing time. Elkmont campground has gone from a "must stay once" destination to a "every year trip" on our list of places to stay.

My husband and I spent one night in Elkmont campground and wished we would've had time to call it home for even longer! We reserved site B6 and it was perfect! We were right on the river and my husband was even able to fly fish right behind our site. He didn't have any luck but the guy at the... More

We were targeted when we left our camper to hike a nearby trail. When we arrived back our door lock was damaged. Things were stolen. We have a pretty old camper and truck. We left nothing out (like most other campers do) and they still got us. We reported the theft and the officer said it was very common which... More

We have been camping at Elkmont for years. We have roughed it in a tent and we have camped in a variety of campers. We camp here several times throughout the year. As you will read when you make a reservation for Elkmont on recreation.gov, this is a PRIMITIVE campground. There are no showers, no pool, no arranged activities. There... More

We went there to look at the abandoned town that sits off in the woods near the campground. You can drive right up to it, with nice flat parking, clean restrooms near the club house. My granddaughter and Daughter enjoyed it very much, it was spooky, and they even thought they saw ghosts. There are trails also you can walk... More

Wilderness camping at it's best. We had campsite 4 and friends on 3. Loved thrm noth. Close to restrooms and absolutely gorgeous spot on the river. Nice size lots. Remember no electric here. There are no showers and no hot water. There is water to fill your drinking and washing jugs. You can have a generator but only from 8... More
