The rooms were clean enough, but in bad need of updating their furniture. The table in our room was so wobbly it would fall over. Just needed a screw. The door wouldn't latch and electrical outlets didn't all work. Bathroom had been recently remodeled. For the price of $99 I thought it was a little high for the quality, but... More

We had very good accommodations at the Aspen Inn. The room was clean and spacious; however, the carpet had large spots. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was sparse; only cold cereal and oatmeal, yogurt, and bread with the usual juices, coffee, and tea. It is a quiet place to stay. Even though it is along the highway,... More

We stayed here in the spring. We were skeptical because of previous reviews but the rooms were clean (yes outdated to the 80's), the staff was friendly, and the morning breakfast was what would be expected (carb loading). The fact that it was on the edge of town made the place even better because then we didn't have to deal... More

Hotel lobby was tiny and smelled of cigarette smoke but room was fine. Hot tub was lukewarm, questionably murky and jets didn't work, some patio furniture dangerously broken. Was ok for us as we were there for one night only.

Great place to stay if you don't want all of the hustle and bustle in town...Relaxed on the deck outside the spa...quiet...rooms were clean and staff was friendly....what more do you need? Have been coming here a few years now and will return.

We stayed in what must have been the older section. The rooms were horrible. The hotel would be good as a $29/ night hotel at least then you get what you pay for. The hotel room smelled, the air conditioning didn't work, the bathroom door didn't shut, the a/c didn't work and looked like it was from the 70's and... More

Old woman is horrible to deal with. She isn't friendly. She is clueless and panics too much. She is crazy. She doesn't understand basic questions and over complicated everything. She kicked us out of our room in the middle of the stay and checked is into another room 3 hours later and made us wait outside.

We were very disappointed when we arrived at this hotel in Grand Marais since the rest of the town is so nice. This hotel is basically a motel and looks like it hasn't been cleaned for years. The guy at the front desk was able to transfer us to the Aspen Inn but it wasn't much better.

I booked this hotel by accident because the site for Grand Marais hotels is a little confusing. This hotel is right on the highway (as in hear the trucks down shift -or back in all night!) It is old and the are little splatters of other peoples dirt on the walls, tub, even the box spring! My husband liked the... More

Definitely a musty smell on entry, though not terrible and get used to it (turning on the AC, which worked fine, helped with that), though they should work on that scent. The room was clean and in good repair, basic motel furnishing style, bed comfortable enough, and had fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer. Breakfast area small with offerings of several... More
