No cell phone service. No Wi-Fi. No television. No bar or lounge. Naniboujou offers none of these traditional lodging amenities. Instead a visitor gets the opportunity to take in the majestic beauty of Lake Superior, relax with a book or quiet conversation in the spacious sun room or deck and wander the spacious grounds. Walk across Highway 61 and enter... More

Check the smart phone at the door. You're stepping back into solitude to commune with the majesty of Lake Superior and Minnesota's North Shore. Great facility--isolated and remote with a score of rooms. Great staff--always helpful and kind. Great dining room. Wonderful history. So colorful. Our typical routine consists of dinner in Grand Marais (Sven and Oles is a favorite),... More

If you know what you're getting into, this place is amazing. Stay here for the beach & the lodge's peaceful main rooms. Stay here to walk directly across the hwy to hike Devil's Kettle. Stay here to enjoy impressively clean, small rooms with no distraction from a phone, tv, or internet. Our family has younger kids - don't stay here... More

This is an historic lodge that opened shortly before the crash of 1929, and that has been through many changes since then. However, the original design and painting (described by someone as Cree Indian mixed with psychedelic art deco) in the dining area of the lodge is still completely intact and incredibly vivid and attractive. There is also a very... More

This lodge is like no other place I've ever been. The dining room is simply stunning. Most of the guest rooms are small, but we don't spend much time there so it's not a big issue. They've always been clean, but on our most recent visit they were absolutely spotless! The rest of the lodge is homey (meaning comfortable if... More

You really felt like you were stepping back in time at Naniboujou. We loved our breakfast and the service was stupendous. We walked around the grounds after eating and thoroughly enjoyed the views. I hope to return and actually stay in the lodge sometime.

My family has been staying at Naniboujou Lodge for over 30 years and we hope to continue our visits for years to come. We LOVE that there are no tvs, phones, or 'touristy' amenities. Our kids have always been entertained by looking for pretty stones on the beach and throwing rocks into Lake Superior. The walk along the shore, the... More

This is my second time to stay here with friends in the summer. As you will see in previous reviews, this is a place where you come to "retreat" and "un-plug". Yes, they haven cell phone, internet and cable services here, but one should spend time to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Northern Shore, talk a walk along the... More

This was the cleanest facility I have ever stayed. It is incredibly well kept and beautiful. The rooms are small and there are few amenities, but it was a delightful stay with a lovely lodge and lots of lawn on the shores of Lake Superior. The dining room is an incredible site with a huge fireplace and beautiful Cree decorations.... More

I was very pleasantly surprised by the very good condition of the lodge. Everything was very clean and in excellent condition. Things looked freshly painted inside and out. Small, but very nice room with a fireplace. Sleep number mattress. Very friendly staff that can often be seen cleaning. Beautiful location on lake and Brule River. Beautiful dining room and fireplace.... More
