Ok, the surroundings look kind of menacing. Gentrification starts on the other side of 4th Ave. But I found it only *looked* unsightly. I encountered no real problems. Service was competent, the rooms were clean, the "free" breakfast (the cost is built into your room rate, don't fool yourself) is only impressive if you think it's free, and only decent... more

We went to NY for father’s day and this hotel made our experience the worst ever, hotel staff was very rude, place was dirty, rooms were very small and corridors were smelly. We have stayed at various hotels all around the world and must say this place was the worst ever. more

Stayed here several nights. Room was SO tiny, constantly tripping over furniture and each other. Also was put on first floor, which is really the basement. Made the stay very dungeon like. The linen was collected each morning and brought down to be washed. While awaiting washing, it was piled on the floor and in carts all over the hall.... more

We did get a quiet room (in the back) on a non-smoking floor as requested. Clean and VERY compact with most of the amenities listed, plus a microwave and small refrigerator in our room. Not 3 star as billed by Hotwire, but more like the 2.5 star rating given by Hotels.com and Expedia. "Complimentary wireless access" was NOT available in... more

Stayed in this hotel whilst on a weekend shopping trip. Read some of the reviews posted before we set off and was a little worried. There was no need... It was really comfortable, nice room and en-suite, helpful staff, the grafitti on the garages in the street added to the charm of the area,1 minute to subway and 1 minute... more

Despite being close to Manhattan, Brooklyn really doesn't have many hotels for a city of its size. I was going to visit my son in Brooklyn for Thanksgiving and he told me about this hotel. I originally booked it on a travel website, but luckily checked my reservation a week before the trip and found I could now get the... more

We're glad we chose to stay at a hotel outside of Manhatten and this one did not disappoint. Apart from the hustle and bustle of Manhatten, we got to see a different side to NYC. Literally 1 min to Union St subway station and 20mins from Times Sq. There was shopping strip close by on 5th or 6th avenue with... more

My wife and I stayed at HIEB for 9 days during late August and early September. I read quite many articles about this hotel before we finally decided to book it through Finnish travel agency. We wanted to stay in Manhattan mainly because of the distance but because our hotel didn´t have any vacancies we choose HIEB. Yes, the first... more

This hotel was booked for me as an alternative to the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott which was reportedly full. I was staying 10 days on a business trip and really wanted a good, well located base. I was unimpressed by the neighbourhood - part demolished buildings opposite and vacant parking lots on this street. Some of the pictures of brownstone buildings... more

The hotel was neatly kept, but we had some trouble finding a non-smoking floor that actually had occupants that weren't smoking. No one enforced this policy. The worse part was that there was NO PARKING. They had one tiny lot in the back of their hotel with 20 parking spots which they sold for $20/night on a first come first... more
