Sankofa Aban is a great 4 level Brownstone in Brooklyn with a fabulous host, Debbie. She truly makes it a home away from home. Great relaxed atmosphere with home cooked breakfasts. If you have a chance to attend the jazz night in her parlour where she serves a "fish fry" it is worthwhile. Easy access to a major metro stop... More

Beautiful building, gracious hostess. Well-located, in a neighborhood that, to me (a white male from a Southern state), seemed pretty exotic. Easy walk to subway; some lines just a couple blocks away, and many others just a few more. I returned to the B&B just in time for the final 30 minutes of the Saturday jazz concert. A lot of... More

Michael thank you again, it totally helps me to find out where I can help my guest better enjoy their stay at Sankofa Aban, within my power. It is in my power to make sure that my guest understand the remote control lighting associated with the ceiling fans, in the rooms. Whenever I neglect to walk my guest to their... More

Sankofa Aban is beautiful 4 level old Brooklyn brownstone that is fabulous in itself, but Deb the owner makes it unique. She makes you feel like family - really cared for.but there's more.the parlor becomes an intimate jazz venue on fri & sat nights. Usually about 30 people. As a guest you can join in or not as your schedule... More

When arriving @ Sankofa Aban, Debby welcomed us with a warm hug and a smile I will never forget. We had some good laughs in the week we stayed here. Brooklyn: something different I liked to stay in Brooklyn, away from the rush from Manhattan but still close enough to visit all the Manhattan sights. Brooklyn is something else. Debby... More

i stayed here for three nights, and what i found was a delightful combination of elegance, music, culture, friendliness, all in a classic old brownstone. all for a reasonable price. will definitely return.

This is the worst B&B that we have ever stayed in at anywhere in the world. I will list below the good and the bad. 1/ GOOD.... It is well located because it is walking distance to subway. 2/BAD..... The place smells terribly, due to cooking cat fish on Fridays and Saturdays (jazz night get together by the owner) 3/... More

I always prefer that other guest speak for me, but I'm realizing that I have to speak for myself sometimes. When I read some reviews, it becomes clear to me that we are not suitable for everyone. Our BnB is all about a comfortable and secure place to stay at an affordable price. Cleanliness in all areas, at all times.... More

We were so excited to stay here based on previous trip advisor reviews. Sadly Debbie, the owner, and the location were the highlights of our stay here. I would agree with one previous reviewer that Debbie is seriously over extended. We rarely saw her, except if we called her on her cell phone (which had no memory for messages left)... More

Debbie, the owner, is still in process of restoring this 18th century Brownstone. It's a piece of history. She is in the process of adding staff. She is far too extended herself. Tell her when and what you want for breakfast the nite before. If you are in a rush to get on with your day it won't happen if... More

My wife and I stayed at the Sankofa for 11 nights in August. All I can say is that Debbie the owner made us part of her family and that thanks to her our stay in NYC was so much more than a holiday, it was special time for us. The restored Brownstone, the weekend jazz nights, the Brooklyn people,... More
