We brought my mother-in-law here for her birthday and rented two of the downstairs suites. all of the wonderful Christmas decorations were still up and we enjoyed the Christmas trees in our rooms and the decorations all over the inn. They thought of so many little comforts: bubble bath in the bathroom, nice bed linens, candy bowls throughout, Kurig coffee... More

I was so surprised to find a tree and Christmas decorations in my room. The whole house was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Very warm and cozy. We were contacted by the inn keeper and used late check in which worked perfectly. The location is very convienient to walking around downtown.

We spent two nights here before Thanksgiving. We stayed in the Virginian room on the top floor fronting on Caroline Street. It had its own bathroom which we liked. Although we had read about possible noise, we were not bothered except by motorcycles and ambulances which fortunately were few. The house was decorated for Christmas, with plenty of trees, lights... My boyfriend and I stayed in the Virginian room which was beautiful with a big comfy bed and a historic look to the room. The inn provided movies, sitting areas with reading material, and bourbon in our room. The dining room had cookies, coffee, water bottles, and tea. Our breakfast was delicious and plentiful. I had the raspberry french toast... More

Richly appointed and luxurious, the Inn makes you feel like you are in your own Victorian getaway. Stocked with lovely extras: nightcaps, chocolate, cookies, movies, bath powder, witty and entertaining coffee table books, a library, a reading / television room... I have stayed in the Canopy Room and the The Loft. The Loft is my favorite: it is a two-story... More

Weary of hotel chains and the plain rooms with lack of personality this hotel is a treat to stay in. We stayed in the loft and loved it. Our bedroom was on another level accessed via a staircase and we had a sitting area downstairs with bathroom. Was lovely and quiet considering its location and everything was supplied that we... My husband and I stayed one night, it was our first overnight away from our three year old, so it was a special occasion. The inn is in a great location, close to restaurants, bars, and things to do. We stayed in the Frejus (sp?) room at the top of the house, and it was very quiet. The bed was... More

Traveling with a friend, we decided to press on to Fredericksburg, so that we didn't have to deal with DC traffic in the morning. We arrived at the Richard Johnston Inn around 11pm, spent and exhausted. We had reserved "the kitchen", a wonderful room with 2 beds and a bath, off of the courtyard. It was so nice to arrive... This does has a great location for exploring the town, just a stroll to art galleries and restaurants and the trolley tour. We booked a $200 room "en suite" called "top of the inn." We found out there it meant lugging luggage 48 steps up from the parking lot level. Not fun but doable. Then at end of a balmy... More

We were hoping for something special after a miserable two-hour crawl down the I95 from Washington to Fredericksburg and we got it. The Richard Johnston Inn is as good a b&b (if you can call it that) as we have stayed in. We booked The Loft and it was like being in a home within a home. It had two... More
