The Thunderbird bills itself as the "hippest hotel in Savannah", alluding to its look and feel like a classic "motor hotel" of the "hip" 60s. There are some cute touches along those lines -- the throw-back pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion in the bathroom, the two moon pies and RC colas in the room, free popcorn and lemonade... My boyfriend and I stayed for a couple days a few months ago. Great hotel. I love ones that aren't the standard. This one had the most comfortable bed and pillows ever. Only problem was the door to the room next door wasn't locking correctly. Might need to look into that (Over by the ice machine under the stairs.) Highly... More

We are Baby Boomers, and the 60's were a great time in our lives. Overnighting it at the Thunderbird Inn took us right back in time. When we first pulled into the lot with multi-colored doors, it was, OMG!!! But it all makes sense once you enter the office to check-in. You are surrounded by vintage 60's memorabilia right down... My first impression was not a good one...there was an odor in our room (RM212) that was noticeable upon opening the door. We came in on a motorcycle and we were very tired so I just let the odor go. I should have requested another room, but as they had let us check in early (by an hour + 1/2)... More

I really hate that you were not happy from the time you checked in and didn't let us know. We never want an unhappy guest, but when it happens we welcome the opportunity to turn around the situation to make you happy. My other question is about the rate. We automatically send out confirmation letters that detail the rate on... More

When I first drove in front of the hotel I almost called the site I book from to cancel, this is a tiny old motel painted in flashy colors, anyway it was kind of late and I was staying just for one night, as soon I left my car and hear the retro music and smell the bobble gum in... More

I am glad were were able to sway you to not cancelling your reservation! The flashy colors are original to the building. It's cool to see them isn't it! I'm happy that we will be your go-to lodging in Savannah! regards, Mark More

I really wanted to like this hotel but I didn't have a good experience. The location and price were great so that made it ok, but that was it. My non-smoking room smelled like smoke; not sure if this was from the very old carpets or the ashtray attached to my wall outside, but they need designated non-smoking areas, not... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm sorry it was inform us of your disappointing experience. I hate that you stayed in one of our last older mattresses. The remaining shipment comes in this month. I understand the frustration of the wifi. I assure you the wifi is as frustrating for us as it is for... More

The Thunderbird was just what we were looking for the in beautiful Savannah. Close to the exquisite historical downtown it was an easy walk to the numerous oak filled squares, ghost tours, the scenic river walks and great food (there's an AMAZING distillery around the corner). The rates were more than reasonable considering how central it's location and the rooms... More

The front desk staff great and friendly. This property is located at the west end of town. It is next to the bus station and trolley tours. This is very novel and ok. We went to savannah to go go go so we really only used it to shower and sleep. Road noise was bad. You need to take a... More

Thank you for choosing to stay with us! I appreciate you taking the time to write a review of your experience. I love that you enjoyed the moonpies and RC colas; we love sharing those with our guests! I'm surprised by the cab fares. The city is very walk-able from the Tbird and there is no need for a cab... If this "hotel" were located anywhere else in the U.S., it would not command a $150/night. We booked this place for our 5th anniversary for a couple of reasons: 1) most affordable hotel anywhere near the historic district and 2) intrigued by the theme. Turns out the theme seemed more accidental than intentional (i.e. was cheaper to write off the... More
