My wife and I made reservations to stay at the Phoenix Risin' Bed and Breakfast owned by Janice Orr. We arrived for our stay the Sunday of Presedential Inauguration week. The amenities and condition of the Inn are not as depicted on their website. We left after staying only one night of a reserved and pre-payed 6 nights. My wife... more

First, we are open all year. Valentine's Day 2009 marked our 9th year in business. In that time we've received six (6) complaints, including this one. If we provided the type of service alleged, we would have been out of business years ago. We have repeat customers and many guests are referred by previous guests. The writer requested a refund,...

Dirty, dank, disappointing. These three words sum up my impression of Phoenix Risin' Bed and Breakfast in Baltimore, MD, June 2008. Although my partner---here from Australia for the summer----and I had high hopes of a relaxing in an historic American neighborhood, we found the accommodations so deplorable that we decided to leave and stay somewhere else in the city. We... more

Sorry for the delay in responding, but we've been VERY BUSY. We were told by the various reservation services that we use to expect this type of review if we decided not to refund a guest's deposit. However, as a matter of principal we decided not to refund the reviewer's deposit.. We only wish that the reviewer posted a review...

I am the Proprietor of Lady Neptune B&B Inn in Hampton, VA. Since my husband and I were going to be in the Baltimore area, I decided to stay at Phoenix Risin' B&B because I had heard about it. Frankly, I was curious to know why it continues to receive great ratings from national magazines and websites like Essence, Black... more

I booked this B&B for a Mother's Day weekend getaway for my wife and I this past May and I must say I was slightly underwhelmed from the first moments. The inn keeper took about 20 minutes to greet us downstairs, she was still getting our room ready. The problem with that was I was running about an hour late... more

We are sorry to read that the reviewer was somewhat disappointed with his stay. He was upset that he had to wait until someone opened the door to let he and his wife in. As we are an urban B&B, our doors are always locked (the front door is 5 steps from the sidewalk). Plus, our inn is huge. Guests...

I travel frequently. When I travel to the East Coast, particularly the Washington/Baltimore Metropolitan area, Phoenix Risin is my lodging destination. I have stayed there more than 8 times, having just returned this month. There are 4 main reasons that I am a repeat customer: The hospitality, arework, breakfasts and the sheets. As she always does, the Innkeeper, Janice Orr,... more

I had never been to a b+b before and decided to spend Easter weekend at Risin’ Phoenix. I booked & paid for the room (it is policy to pre-pay for a holiday weekend) before seeing the comments below. Once I read them I immediately spoke to the owner about my concerns and disappointment. She assured me that they were not... more

I recently stayed at Phoenix Risin with a few colleagues for a business meeting. The pictures on the website are deceiving and the property is disgusting. For starters -The property was unprepared for our arrival and the innkeeper provided several excuses but never offered a discounted Upon entering the property, the innkeeper had all of personal items (shoes, clothes, etc)... more

The reviews were not written by individuals who were guests of the inn on separate...

I was part of a women's retreat that went to the Phonix Risin over Veteran's weekend. This place was a very sad excuse for a bed and breakfast. It is in a nice neighborhood in Baltimore and the house is filled with beautiful artwork from all over the world however this place would be better off calling itself an afrocentric... more

This has got to be the worst bed and breakfast imaginable. I hate to call it a bed and breakfast because we didn't even recieve breakfast. Every year, my fellow board members and I, book a bed and breakfast for our annual retreat. We chose Phoenix Risin because of the price and because we wanted to patronize a minority-owned business.... more

First of all, read this entire review before you stay here! I know it's long, but it is not worth the money to stay. When I told this story to people I received the same response on a number of occassions - "Are you sure you weren't renting that by the hour?" I recently stayed at the Phoenix Risin’ and... more

First, I'd like to thank the reviewer for taking the time to write such a detailed report on his experience at our inn. Had it not been for his review, we probably would have asked the person to innsit for us again. But because of his description of what occurred, we will never ask that person to innsit for us...
