Spent one night in a historic room and wished we had days to just sit still and appreciate the quiet, the birdlife, and the stars. Loved the architecture, the CCC history, the big comfy bed, the ultra friendly park staff, and the location: hillside paths at our doorstep and a short drive to the observatory and great trails and outlooks.... A great place for families. Large rooms, good pool. we stayed with another family - great for letting children run about. Great for a few peaceful relaxing days away from it all! Setting is fantastic and decor of rooms is really lovely and different - would love to return again some day.

We had the most delightful week end at the Indian Lodge. We stayed in the historic section and really enjoyed our room, balcony and aminities. The furniture is what appears to be handmade pine. The people could not have been any more helpful and pleasant. We sat on a bench in the park and took photos of visiting birds and... More

We stayed two nights at the Indian Lodge a few weeks ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The architecture is stunning, and the furnishings are unique and very comfortable. We had one of the newer rooms with two large beds, and the convenience of parking at the door. The Black Bear restaurant is right on the premises with very good value... More

Indian Lodge is an historic lodge dating back to the CCC days. It was remodeled a few years ago and has a modern section and an historic section. We prefer to try and stay in the historic rooms. We always splurge and pay about $35 more to get a suite. The rooms are very reasonably priced. The Lodge is nothing... More

Our second year to stay while visiting the McDonald Observatory. One of the most pleasant stays we've had. The room was quite roomy and comfortable with a very nice view, in good repair and clean. Plenty of room in the bathroom, too. We will make it a point to visit again.

Indian Lodge is a well preserved facility operated by the Texas State Parks. Located in the heart of the Davis Mountains, it is the nearest accommodations to the fantastic McDonald Observatory. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's, the handmade cedar furniture is original to the lodge. It isn't "posh" by any means, but the rooms and bathrooms... More

This hotel isn't fancy, but it is authentic. Our rooms were clean and furnished with only the necessities. I'd go again to sit outside my room and take in the peaceful morning with the cool, clean mountain air and watch the sun rise on the dramatic desert landscape.

For our family, this oasis holds nothing but incredibly positive memories. The furnishings are remarkable, varied so that visitors may choose traditional or quaint, while being blissfully comfortable in any location. Nearby are scenic vistas that present some of the very best of Texas beauty. A location that is not to be missed! Oh, and it is the coolest part... More
